“Let me change into my boots.” After setting her dishes in the sink she walked out, calling over her shoulder. “Be good pups and pack a bag with snacks and drinks, will ya?”
Asher’s heart fluttered—he wanted nothing more than to be a good pup for her.
“Spare me,” Isaiah laughed before pulling out supplies.
A flash of insecurity washed over Asher, but Isaiah shut it down.
“Don’t be shy about it. If you’re happy with being her pup go for it. I prefer being her wolf, but that doesn’t mean you two can’t have your own dynamic.”
“She liked your dominance yesterday,” Asher mumbled underneath his breath.
“It wasn’t my tongue to make her come though.”
“It could have been.”
“True, but I don’t enjoy it as much as you do which means it wouldn’t have been as pleasurable for her.”
Asher sighed, knowing Isaiah was telling the truth—he was right.
They packed the supplies away in a backpack before going upstairs to exchange their workout gear for something more appropriate for a hike.
They met back up with Vel downstairs, where she was smiling over finding her favourite chocolate tucked away in the bag. “Ready?”
Asher nodded, swinging the bag over his shoulder.
“Do you have a path you wanna take?” Isaiah asked as he held the door open for them.
“Dad used to hike to Crystal Lake with me.”
“Do you remember the way?”
“Barely,” she admitted.
“Ah, we’re of some use after all,” Asher chuckled, falling into step behind Isaiah.
“It seems so,” Vel teased.
Though he’d never particularly enjoyed hiking, Asher was looking forward to this one. Mostly because he wanted to spend the time with Vel, but he was just as grateful he didn’t have to run.
“May I ask something?” Isaiah inquired.
“Sure.”
“When you were panicking before we drove into Swiftport, why did you call Beta Wayne?”
“Because I was mad at Heath.”
“Have you talked to him since you arrived?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
Vel only responded with a shrug.
“Are you still upset with him?”
“Kind of, but not as much. I always understood why he sent me back, but I just hated it.”
