“It feels right, I just—”

“Had bad experiences trusting anyone but yourself. I understand that and if I or the pack ever do something that makes you uncomfortable, please talk to us.”

“This just feels too good to be true.”

“I promise you we’d never try to deceive you.”

She took a deep, centering breath, then slowly nodded again.

“I’ll keep it short and simple, but I think it’s important we do it with everyone present. You’re becoming part of our family and I think everyone should be part of such an important event.”

“I do too.”

She opened her eyes, her gaze meeting his. Just like before on the clearing, there was something fierce and stern about her.

This little rogue wolf was so much more than what she was aware of and he couldn’t wait to see it happen.

Chapter Eleven

Velora

The hours leading to the ceremony flew by—and Velora was less than impressed. It always seemed that the less excited she was for something the quicker it happened. She was elated that Alpha Heath was making her part of the Howler pack, but did he have to do it in front of so many people? The mere thought churned her stomach.

Before she knew it, there was a knock at her front door. With a pounding heart she opened it to find Leroy standing on the other side. He smiled down at her, his eyes sparkling.

“I thought you might want company. I wasn’t sure if you remembered where to go.”

She knew exactly where she needed to go but was relieved she didn’t have to make the journey by herself.

“If you’re not ready, I can wait. I just thought you’d like to beat the crowd and ease yourself in.”

“I’d like that.”

He patiently waited for her to grab her cardigan before leading her towards the village. “I’m glad you’re joining the pack.”

“Thank you.”

Leroy fell quiet as he led her around the houses and to the clearing, he’d shown her on their run. “If you’re lucky we might sneak a few snacks. Evelyne usually makes sure everyone is there before anyone is allowed to eat.”

The clearing was decorated with lanterns and jarred candles scattered over the tables. The seating arrangements were made out of old logs and stones with a buffet on the far end. It was homey and sure to look gorgeous once the sun set and the candles illuminated the space.

Velora followed Leroy to a group of other pack members she recognized as warriors.

“I believe you’ve met everyone, right?”

She nodded with a polite smile, trying to hide how uncomfortable she was. She just wasn’t sure what to do in that kind of social situation. Rayan keeping his distance didn’t help either. She knew he was only doing as Alpha Heath had ordered, but wasn’t sure if the rest of the pack knew.

Thankfully, they all chatted along, more than happy to just have her observe. They all seemed to be good friends, no real rivalry to be seen, though they did enjoy teasing each other.

She subtly shifted so her back wasn’t exposed to the clearing. Having so much open space behind her made her hair stand on end. She watched as the pack slowly arrived, Alpha Heath and his two little ones among the first. He was sweet with them and seemed to greet everyone individually, chatting and catching up while giving a helping hand when needed.

Her heart leapt into her throat when their eyes met and he gave her that smile that made her stomach flip. He made his way to her with Mia holding tight to his hand.

“We better shut up. Alpha has targeted us,” Dan chuckled, though Velora had no idea what they’d even been talking about.

“I see you’re making friends,” Alpha Heath beamed. “Are they treating you well?”

She nodded, unsure of exactly what to say.
