Speak of the devil and he shall appear. It’s like fucking Beetlejuice, except you only need to say their names once, or even think them, and the bitches pop up out of thin air. Making a beeline straight toward us, they are dressed to perfection as usual in some form of slutty, name brand clothing that most likely cost more than ten grand.

Each of them wears a smug look on their overly done faces. If they think they control us, they’re mistaken. We’re just allowing them to think they can have any sway in what we do. We’ve tolerated them and their families for far too long.

“Well, I’m leaving you to handle them. I have bigger fish to fry. Don’t forget to be home at four. We’re taming a cat that’s been abandoned and abused in the wild. Any sudden move could scare her off.”

With that, I take off at a jog right toward Hilary. I can hear the girls’ disgruntled squawking as I pass by, but I don’t give a shit.

Hilary’s still crawling around the ground, trying to collect her scattered papers.

“Hey, let me help you.” I squat down and begin picking them up.

I can feel the stares of everyone on me, wondering why the hell one of the kings is helping her, or anyone, for that matter. We’ve never done it before, so why would we now?

Her dark emerald eyes peer up at me over the rim of her glasses, pupils blown wide at my assistance. Internally, I’m letting out my best sinister laugh, loving how I’m toying with her life. Her very short life.

She looks around at everyone, her face turning pink under the scrutiny of the masses.

“Why are you helping me?” she asks, low enough only the two of us can hear.

“Why wouldn't I? We’re friends and project partners,” I remind her, trying to put on my best chivalrous act.

“I get we’re partners, but we’ve never been friends,” she bites back.

“An oversight on my part, but now we are.” I hand her the papers I picked up, and she takes them. Reaching out, I give her a hand, helping her to stand.

She takes it, but once she’s standing, she quickly jerks it away as if I have a plague.

“Where are you heading?” I know where she’s going. I know her whole fucking schedule. It’s why I know today at four she has nowhere to be. On a normal day, she’d be in the library, but today she’ll be with us.

“Class. I have a test today so I really need to go. Thanks for the help.” She goes to scurry away, but I take hold of her arm, stopping her.

“Hey, we need to continue working on our project. My house at four. I’ll get us dinner again, so don’t even try to tell me you have to rush off for dinner.” I don’t give her a chance to weasel out of it, as I turn and take off toward the guys and the three bitches.

Before I reach them, I turn around and scream, “Don’t make me come looking for you!”

A small piece of me, not even deep below the skin, hopes that she does, that we can play a little game of hide and seek. Only she won’t like what happens when I find her. No one disregards a request of mine.

“What the hell kinda shit is that, Jonas?” Allie’s shrill voice cries as I step up to them.

“None of your fucking business,” I snap at her.

“Seeing how we’re engaged, I think it is.” With pursed lips, she juts her hip out as she crosses her arms over her chest.

“Seeing how your manicured finger doesn’t have a flashy diamond purchased by me on it, I beg to differ. And if the guys haven’t told the three of you yet, we have plans, so don’t fucking come to our house.” With those words, the three of us turn and head off in the other direction. None of us has the desire to entertain their theatrics at the moment.

“She coming?” Jensen asks.

“If she knows what’s good for her.” We all burst out laughing as we make our way to Carlson Hall.

CHAPTER EIGHT

Unknown

They think they’re so fucking clever.

That no one knows who and what they are.

Expendable; that's how they feel everyone is—well, excluding them, of course. If I were a betting person, I’d wager they’d even kill their own fathers, feeding their bloody corpses to rabid dogs, taking delight in how the vicious animals rip the flesh from their bones.
