What. The. Fuck?

“You, but why? How?” comes out in shock.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Unknown Unmasked

Seeing the what the fuck looks on their faces was priceless as I took off my mask. None of them ever expected it would be me fucking up their night. Their fucking tradition.

My blood’s pumping with pure euphoria. I ruined something so precious to them, just like they ruined my life.

Well, not them exactly. Their fathers. But this game, this night of theirs, was the only thing they held dear to their hearts. The perfect way to get back at their parents is by crushing them in the best way. Ending the bitch’s life was just icing on the cake for me. The other two, well, their end will be coming shortly. But I’ll let them hear what I have to say, maybe I’ll even toy with their heartstrings a little and let them think they’ll survive.

They won’t. It is Friday the thirteenth, by the way, and the only person who ever lives in those stupid ass movies is the obligatory virgin. Which they definitely aren’t.

“This is some sick joke,” Hals blurts and I laugh.

“Is it? Why’s that? Am I not what you expected?” My voice grows angrier with their disbelief. I step over Ellie’s body, giving it a nice kick before I do. She doesn’t feel it. All life has drained from her. Good riddance to the cunt.

Next up, Allie. I kneel at her side, taking hold of her head, running the blade of my knife down the length of her face. They haven’t moved, still in shock at the revelation that’s just unfolded before them.

“Don’t!” Jensen yells, like I would listen. The time of bowing to them is gone. All masks are off now.

I fist more of her hair around my hand, giving it a good tug as she cries, the sound muffled by the gag in her mouth.

“I don’t think so. Keep pushing me and the fun will be over quicker than you can count to ten.”

“Why, Hilary? What the fuck? When did you turn into this… this person?” Hals asks, his brows furrowed.

“I was good, huh? I could make millions with my acting skills, had all three of you fucking eating out of my hands, believing everything. Even that I’d never had my pussy eaten. But I admit, Hals, you’re a fucking pro.” With a sly wink at him, I glide the knife blade down her face again, creating a matching parallel wound. She squirms underneath me, only causing me to enjoy it more.

I love it when they fight.

It wasn’t as enjoyable ending the lives of Philip and Dylan. I didn’t get the thrill from a hunt since they were so nicely wrapped up for me.

“Why? Can you fucking explain what the hell’s going on before I go ballistic? You’re creating a fucking headache for us that we have to deal with, so I’d like to at least know why.” Jensen puffs his chest out as he narrows his eyes and flattens his lips together. Like I really give a fuck about how he feels.

“Not that you deserve it, but I’ll explain. It all started twenty-two years ago. Interestingly enough, on a Friday. The thirteenth, to be more specific.” It’s cute when their eyes go wide, and they realize where this is going.

“How—”

I wave my finger at them. “Tsk tsk. It’s not polite to interrupt. You wanted to know why I’m doing all this, and I’m being gracious enough to explain.”

Gripping Allie’s hair tighter, I drag her body closer to Jenny, not wanting her to feel excluded from the fun. Pulling my foot back, I kick her square in the face, taking joy in seeing her tooth go flying and the blood gushing from her mouth.

The guys clench their hands. They want to rush me, tackle me to the ground and commit all the vile acts they had planned for me. But they don’t. I know they’ve been questioning their fathers’ control of this night. I knew going in they’d be more interested in my story than seeking to restrain me.

“Your fathers are pricks, yet everyone wants to be their friends. Who wouldn’t want to be associated with the most popular men in school? Except your fathers toyed with people’s hopes and desires and ruined lives. Mine, to be exact.”

I release my grip on Allie’s hair, stepping over Jenny’s body to lean against the tree, using my knife to clean under my nails. I can’t help but chuckle when neither of them rush to help their poor girls. Why should they? I’m doing them a favor by ending those marriages before they even happen.

“How did our parents fuck up your life?”

I can see they’re trying to put the pieces together but are so oblivious. They’re not going to be able to unlock the mystery that’s me. I’m good at covering my tracks and making sure people only see what I want them to. I’ve planned long and hard for tonight. Perfecting every single nuance of my persona.

“It’s a sad story, really. You see, there was this sweet man who wanted nothing more than to be part of your families’ little trio. He didn’t know the depravity they enjoyed, merely wanted some of the success he knew they were destined to have,” I pause and look at them. They are all staring, watching my every move. “He was in love with a beautiful woman who yearned for the finer things in life. When she became pregnant, she lost hope, but this man loved her so much he was willing to sell his soul to be part of the kings, even if he was only their joker.”

I lift the knife to my mouth, licking the smooth part of the blade, gathering the blood accumulated on it with my tongue. The metallic flavor explodes in my mouth and I let out a moan—the taste soothing my dark soul, one that’s been held captive for far too long.
