“Thank you, Avery. I will make sure she is taken care of.”

Avery had to look over at Mia and shrug after the two women shared a look. Avery couldn’t understand why Donovan’s voice got dark like it did.

“Okay ladies let’s go get some food. Mia, would you like to join us? Knight invited Avery’s best friend.

“Sure. Let me go grab my bag.”

Avery and Delaney linked arms in front of the two men as they discussed something between the two of them. She figured Knight would talk to her about everything later on when they were ready.

As they arrived at the parking lot, neither person was paying attention to where they were going. Avery looked up as soon as she heard a car revving and squealing tires.

Seeing that the car was aiming for her and Delaney, she pushed Delaney out of the way at the same time she screamed. Luckily for her, Knight heard the sound also and grabbed her out of the way in time.

“Are you ok?” Knight asked, checking her over from head to toe!

“Yes. Delaney fell when I pushed her out of the way, check on her!” Avery yelled out, shaking at what had just occurred.

“Donovan has her. My concern is you! Are you sure you’re ok?”

“Yes. I’m sure it was just someone trying to get out and didn’t realize until it was too late. I’m fine, Knight.”

“Avery, that person didn’t slow down or honk. They revved up when they saw you and Delaney in the middle of the parking lot. It was deliberate.” Donovan informed her as he walked over with Delaney who was also shaken.

Well fuck a duck! Looks like her stalker was trying to kill her now.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Knight was fuming inside. Not only did someone try to take out his baby sister, but they also tried to kill Avery. Both were offenses he and Donovan were not going to take lightly.

Knight didn’t hesitate in taking Avery back to his place. Donovan took Delaney back to his penthouse where she had been staying with him. Mia was sitting on his couch holding a shaken Avery who hadn’t spoken a word since she realized someone was truly trying to kill her.

Knight pulled out his phone and dialed Ellis’s number. While he waited for his partner to pick up, his mind replayed what had happened in the parking lot. Something kept niggling around in his head about the person in the car.

“Ellis”

“The package dealt with?”

“Yeah. It’s in holding until further notice. You okay? You sound tense.”

“Someone tried to run Delaney and Avery over with a car in the parking lot when we were leaving the school carnival.”

“Fuck! Are they okay?” Ellis asked, worry in his voice.

“For now. Shaken up, but okay. Donovan has Delaney at the penthouse. Stick Rat and Bones on the package. I need you to escort Avery’s friend, Mia, home. Make sure she has no unwelcomed visitors. Assign two people to watch the house and her.” Knight ordered.

“On it boss. You need me, let me know. Once the boys get here, I’ll be there to escort Ms. Mia home.”

“Thanks, Ellis.”

Knight hung up the phone and closed his eyes. He mentally had to count to twenty before he could feel the muscles in his body start to relax.

Knight walked over to where Avery sat on the couch curled up in a blanket, sitting next to Mia. Sitting down, he pulled her into his arms.

He was worried because she had not spoken a word since finding out the incident in the parking lot was intentional. He was hoping the show he was putting on the tv that he rarely watched would work.

Knowing she had a thing for Chucky, he found the proper channel and turned the show on. The show was ending by the time Ellis had knocked on the door.

“Everything okay?” Knight asked after Ellis walked in.
