I couldn’t smell the wildflower and vanilla scent of her perfume beneath the heavy cloying odor of weed. Scarlett’s mouth was familiar and confident, not the tremble of Stormy’s lips or the vulnerability in her eyes.
Scarlett sucked me into her warm, wet mouth, and her tongue twisted around the bar through the head. I ran my hands into her hair, but instead of soft, short curls, Scarlett’s long dark hair slid through my fingers.
I leaned up on my elbow. “Kitten—” I wanted to tell her to stop, that this wasn’t fair to her. She wasn’t the one I wanted.
Scarlett dropped to her knees on the floor. She curled her fingers into my jeans and tugged them lower. “I’ll make you forget her.”
Chapter Five
Stormy
I already had a good buzz going when Steele handed me another beer. I’d avoided staring at Bullet for three minutes and twenty-two seconds. I knew because I’d watched the secondhand on the clock tick. And it’s how long it took for Steele to get me another beer.
In those three minutes, Bullet had left the chapel, and so had Scarlett. The beer and barbecue I’d consumed soured my stomach. I hated this feeling. I hated that she’d had her hands on him, but when I’d casually touched his arm, he’d jerked away from me.
“I need to pee,” Lili said.
“Me, too.” Levi scooted her chair back. “Come on, Lilibug, let’s go. I have a bathroom in my room, so there’s never a line.”
Lili followed Levi out of the chapel.
“Thanks for today,” Steele said.
“I should be thanking you. I would’ve been alone all day. She was a great helper getting my room set up.”
Steele leaned back in his chair. “She likes you.”
I laughed. “All she knows about me is that I love ballet too and can put her hair in a bun.”
Steele chuckled. “She wasn’t happy about the braids. About as happy as she is playing soccer. If she hasn’t made it clear, she hates it.”
“She told me.”
“Her mom’s boyfriend coaches her team. Another fucking play to replace me. She can try, but I won’t give her a reason to push me out of Lili’s life. I pay the fucking mortgage, and she fucks her boyfriend on our bed.”
“Ouch.”
His jaw clenched, and his mouth formed a hard line. “I’ve done a shit job of keeping Lili out of the divorce. I don’t talk shit on Heather. Heather has no problem talking shit on me.”
And throughout the day, I’d heard it all from Lili.
“I don’t see how you can keep her out of it. The marriage might be over—”
“Not might. It’s a hard fuck no, never again.” He sighed and took a big swig of his beer. “I’m done with relationships.” He smiled. “Which is why it’s easy to yank Bullet’s chain. Not that I haven’t enjoyed your company today, but the MC has unwritten rules about making a play on a brother’s property.”
“I’m not property.”
He laughed. “What’s the story between you two?
I glanced around the room again. Bullet still hadn’t come back.
“We have a complicated history.”
Steele tipped his beer in agreement. “I could tell. We’re going to need shots to go with our beers.” He hollered to Cruz behind the bar and held up two fingers. “Two lemon drops.”
“Not for me.” I waved my hand at Cruz. “I’m good.”
“I can’t wait to hear the story. Are we talking recent history or ancient history?”
