Sasha twists her face into a grimace and leans forward to tap the edge of my desk. “First of all, we aren’t most bosses and assistants. Second of all, we’ve slept together, so I think that blows the usual protocol between bosses and their assistants out of the water. But most of all, you and I are closer than most family members, so why shouldn’t I ask about something I know has been bothering you?”

She does make good points. We really don’t have your usual boss and employee dynamic, especially after sleeping together. Even more, I’m closer to Sasha than I am with any of my family, except maybe Alaric.

Still, I don’t want to tell her about my time with Aria last night. Something about that feels like it could take the magic away.

However, I know my assistant and she won’t stop asking, so I have to give her something to pacify her. Maybe a few details will make her happy.

“Let’s just say I think we may have reached a new understanding.”

Her face lights up as her eyes grow wide. “Ooooh, tell me.”

“No.”

All the happiness in her expression drains away as she juts out her lower lip in a pout. “Why not? I’m living vicariously through you, Gideon, since you won’t let me have any fun with her.”

“About that. You need to stop talking about wanting to sleep with Aria. I think she’s already jealous of you, and that doesn’t help matters.”

Sasha rolls her eyes as she sits back in her chair. “I don’t say that to her. Only you. By the way, you should let me get to know her better. I like her. She’s beautiful, and she’s just my type.”

So much for her stopping.

“No. And stop asking. I told you at the party the other night. It irritates me.”

“I thought it only irritated you because you weren’t with her. Now that you are, what’s the problem? You and I have been with other women you were sleeping with. Is Aria different?”

Yes, she’s different, but I don’t want to get into that discussion with Sasha. It will only encourage her to chase after Aria more.

“Let’s just say I don’t want to share her and leave it at that. Why are you in my office this early in the morning? Do we have something big going on today?”

She levels her gaze on me and slowly smiles. “You know what today is. The visit from Daddy and possibly from big brother.”

And with those words, my day is officially ruined.

“Right. I had forgotten somehow.”

“I’m guessing whatever you and your beautiful prisoner did together last night caused that.”

Hating the way she keeps using that term, I say, “Can you please stop calling her that?”

With a shrug, she seems to agree. “Fine. What would you have me refer to her as since I’m sure Helix and Alex are going to be curious?”

“You are to say nothing about Aria. Understand me? She’ll be up in the penthouse away from everyone, so there will be no need to mention her.”

Again, Sasha twists her face into a look of disgust. “A night of mind-blowing sex and you make her stay in again? That doesn’t seem right.”

As she stands to leave, I can’t help asking, “What makes you think that’s what happened between us last night?”

Smiling, my assistant answers, “Well, you look downright happy today, happier than I think I’ve seen you in ages. Also, I’ve slept with you, Gideon. Trust me. When you’re on, it’s mind-blowing. Come to think of it, even when you’re not, it’s pretty great.”

“I think you have a one-track mind, you know that?” I say with a chuckle.

She turns to leave but calls back to me, “I just call things as I see them. Gideon had great sex last night. I’m going to tell the rest of the staff so don’t be surprised when they all gawk at you as you walk past them in the lobby today. I’ll let you know when your family arrives.”

I’m not sure who’s happiest that Aria and I finally slept together, me, Aria, or Sasha. I wish I could keep this day feeling just as it does now. No problems. Just great memories of my time with her last night.

But my father will put an end to my good feelings, and if my brother comes too, I predict nothing but misery for me. Maybe they’ll only stay for a few hours.

Right before lunch, I hear something outside my office door, and a second later, Sasha comes rushing in followed by my father and Alex. She looks flustered, which can’t be good.
