Only I didn’t geta chance.
Chapter 8
Dash growled, pushing me against the bathroom door, kissing me passionately before I could even let out a squeak.
My hands dropped to his wrists as his large palms held me in place, controlling the kiss. He was showing me how he liked it, and I was putty in his hands, going with it. My brain was frying, and I was doing my best not to hyperventilate because it worked. All that talking got me to where I wanted to be.
“One night.” His lips were essentially on mine as he spoke, almost like he couldn’t bear to be away from me. It was hot. His tongue dipped into my mouth, swallowing any hope of a verbal response.
I drew my head back, whimpering into the kiss as I let him take me wherever he wanted to go. Dash’s hands were at my hips as he slipped them under my sweatshirt, before pulling it off. I helped to push it over my head and dropped it to the floor.
Breathing out, I adjusted my wrinkled white T-shirt as I felt his gaze roammy body. Goose bumps flared across my arms because he was silent, and I thought he might be having second thoughts.
“You okay, Big Man?” I asked with a hard swallow.
“One night,” he reconfirmed like he was a broken computer. “That’s it. Just one night.” It sounded more like a threat than anything else.
“Exactly.”
“Are you sure you can handle something like that?” There was unease in his voice. The real answer for me was that I wasn’t sure. I’d never had sex, so I didn’t know how it would affect our relationship, but now that Dash was on offer to be my first, there was no way I would back down.
“I can. Can you?”
He quietly contemplated, and again, I knew Dash. The quieter he was, the more likely he was thinking himself out of doing anything. So I did something that I knew would prove my commitment. I showed him my pinkie finger, and he glared at it with surprise. The significance wasn’t lost on either of us. Cade and Dash pinkie promised on everything when they were younger. They did it when they were deciding which high school to go to, which friends to hang out with. They even pinkie promised on going to Covey U together and getting on the same team. How they managed to make that come true was beyond me, but I had some theories it had to do with the power of the promise.
This promise was just as important as the others.
He dropped his hand, sliding it down my arm, and when his pinkie wrapped around mine, I nearly fainted.
Not only was it a behemoth of a pinkie because it was the size of a normal person’s index finger, but he’d agreed to sleep with me. It was all there, set in stone. Or flesh if you wanted to be pedantic.
“One night just between you and me,” he said lowly, but I could hear the determination in his voice.
“No one has to know.”
“No one has to know,” he repeated, and as our fingers stayed wrapped around each other, I felt our fate sealing in that one moment.
My body shivered, and I hoped to everything holy that I hadn’t just broken out in hives because there was no way I was wasting this one opportunity. Dash Bridges and I were going to fool around, and if that wasall I could get, then I’d take it.
“This is going to be one hell of a night,” he said, his eyes firmly on my breasts. I poked them out, wanting to feel sexy for the first time in my life, but also not wanting to give away that I was a virgin because I knew Dash. He was the righteous, chivalrous type and would suggest I save it for the guy I loved. He wouldn’t want us to go through with it. What he didn’t realize was that it was him I wanted.
Stepping back from me, he reached down and pulled open a drawer beside the sink where there were several new toothbrushes and an undeniably large pack of condoms.
Seriously, how many did one guy need?
“Got enough in there?” I blurted before thinking. When he looked at me with furrowed brows, my mind thought it would be good to keep talking. “Because, you know, you have enough condoms and toothbrushes in there to have a new girl over once a night.”
He glanced down at the drawer and took the box of condoms out. Sighing, he placed it on the vanity beside us. My gaze had dropped to my hands because I suddenly felt like I was in over my head in this situation. I thought finally getting the guy I always wanted would make me feel less insecure, not more.
Wrapping his hands in mine, he brought them to his chest and waited for me to look at him. It took some time, but when I gained the courage to tip my chin up, Dash was watching me with intent.
“Do you really think that I have girls here all the time?”
“I didn’t, but that drawer…”
“Is full because I’ve never used any of the stuff in there. Erik bought enough condoms for the entire team when we moved in two years ago. I found all that stuff in there before I’d even unpacked on my first day. Come to think of it, they’ve been sitting there so long, they’ve probably expired.”
He picked up the box, flipped it over, laughed, then showed me. “Someone is looking down on us because they’re expiring in a week.”
