I had tried to contact Ollie multiple times since that night. But he blocked me on social media and reported me to GSC for harassment. Luckily, the Global Shifter Council had previous incidents of mates having disagreements. They told me to back off and let him return to me in his own time. I had to tread carefully and not become a stalker. They would be watching.

Now we have another chance.

Not all hope was lost.

“I was about to call you a liar.” Rayne touched my shoulder. “But now I am not sure. What’s going on?”

“Ollie finally messaged me back. He heard about the coven-pack’s situation and is coming to town to help investigate and find the culprit. His partner will come down later if we need more than one agent on the job.”

“And you think he’ll be willing to work out this issue between you, too?”

“That’s the best part. He said he wants to meet with me before starting the investigation.”

“I hope this works out for you.” Rayne hugged me. “You deserve your happily ever after.”

“I hope so, too.”

“I know so. And something tells me I’ll be admiring a niece or nephew soon.”

I looked down at the two dragon eggs and imagined what mine would look like. All I knew was I could not fuck this up.

Chapter Four

Ollie

I flew across the world to reconcile with a mate I had been running from for a year. What the hell would I say to him?

“Goddess, why did I think this was a good idea?” I walked through the busy airport. My best friend was already on the phone with me, checking if I had arrived safely and letting me vent my panic.

“Because he’s your mate,” Alec answered. “And you never should have left him in the first place.”

“Alec.” I ran a hand through my loose waves. “I thought I needed to.”

“I understand you thought you were doing what you needed to. But I told you, you took too long the whole year.”

“And I was too stubborn and confused to listen.”

“But now you aren’t,” Alec said. “You are going to your mate when he needs you. You can do this. You might need to make it up to him a little. Honestly, I’m unsure how you went this long without him.”

It was about time that I went back to Wolf. He needed me as much as I needed him. “I know. You’ve told me this several times already. And I agree with you. It’s time to get my mate. I’m ready. I hope he will overlook my behavior this last year.”

“He will,” Alec said. “You just need to remember that he gave you the time you needed. Now might be when you return the favor.”

“I wish I hadn’t let things get to me like I did.”

“Listen, I’m not saying it wouldn’t have bothered me if I saw someone hanging on my mate. But where we differ is that I would have smacked those bitches down. Grabbed my mate and claimed what was mine right there and then.”

“That’s your style.” I imagined that scene playing out and chuckled.

“From how he pursued you, he doesn’t want any of those others. And he only backed off once you had the GSC advise him to give you the space.”

“He still messaged me occasionally to keep me updated.” I claimed my bag from the carousel.

“He didn’t give up on you. He just listened to you when you asked for space. Go to him and talk. Everything will be okay,” Alec said. “Now, who is picking you up at the airport?”

“I’ve no clue. The pack said there would be someone waiting for me. I’m just looking for one of those signs with my name. I haven’t found one yet.”

“I’ll let you go so you can focus on that,” Alec said.
