“I think there are a couple seasons out.” Ashton hit play and placed the remote down on the end table.

“I still can’t believe I missed the fact that the show existed until today.” I stretched after pausing the sixth episode. “This is amazing.”
“I love it.” Ashton stood and rolled his shoulders. “Wanna go for a walk before continuing the season?”
“That actually sounds like the perfect idea.” I needed to get some movement in before spending the rest of the night curled up on the couch and stuffing my face.
Ashton and I went out into the fresh air and my lion purred.
“Actually, it would be a nice night to shift. You game?” Ashton stared up at the sky, and I imagined his dragon flying above while my lion hunted on the ground.
“That’s perfect. My lion needs to exercise.”
“Great. Let’s head out in that direction. There is a small open space, and I just texted the guards, and they said the areais clear. We’ll be safe.” Ashton led me to an area of grass where some of the trees had been cleared. “My dragon can shift and take off right here.”
I was already stripping out of my clothes. My lion couldn’t wait and I shifted as soon as I was undressed.
“You are magnificent.” Ashton stared at me with his mouth open and his eyes wide. I walked up to him and allowed him to pet my mane. “Beautiful.”
“Stand back a bit. I’ll let you meet my dragon.” Ashton stepped away to give himself enough space to shift. When I saw his large beast, I understood why.
He called me magnificent, but that word was better suited for his shifted form. The emerald green of his scales took my breath away, but when he took off into the sky was when I was struck by how marvelous he truly was.
A branch cracking to my right shook me out of my daze, and I turned to watch a deer run away from me. My lion took on the challenge. Running through the trees, I felt free in a way I hadn’t in weeks. I caught glimpses of my mate in the sky; he was keeping an eye on me even from up high. I stayed focus on my target. I didn’t want to eat the deer, but I wanted the chase. And this deer gave me a good one.
Once my chase was over and Ashton had gotten his flight in, we met up at the starting point and shifted back to our human skins.
“That was exactly what I needed.” I felt like a hundred pounds of worry was shed by letting my lion out.
“Me, too.” Ashton pulled on his pants but left them unbuttoned and slung his shirt over his shoulder. “What do you want to do now?”
“You.” I bit my lip and let my eyes roam his naked chest.
“Let’s get inside.” Ashton came closer and took my hand, leading me back to the house. “I have a mate to make happy.”
Chapter Ten
Ashton
“Can we go outside and shift again?” Leo took our dirty plates to the sink. “My lion would love to be free for a bit this afternoon.”
“That shouldn’t be an issue.” I brought our empty coffee mugs to the counter. “The guards are placed around the area, and we have a few wards up. No one should be able to bother us.”
“I can’t wait to see your dragon again,” Leo said, wrapping his arms around my waist. “You are the most beautiful shifter I’ve ever seen.”
“I know the feeling. Your lion is magnificent.” I brushed his lips in a sweet and short peck. “Let me call into the office and check if there have been any updates on the case, and then we can head outside.”
It’s been about two days since the last update and I couldn’t wait to see if there was any new information.
Instead of dialing into the office, I chose to contact my partners directly.
“Hey, Ashton,” Dean answered after the first ring.
“Hey, man.” I filled my mug with another serving of black coffee. “I’m just calling to check in. Anything new to report?”
“Actually, I was just about to call you.” Dean sounded pretty happy and so I took it to mean the news was good. “We were able to pin down two suspects who were seen on the scene. We are bringing them in for questioning and looking into their knownassociates. I have a good feeling about these two. I think they will lead us to the big bad, you know what I mean.”
