That was the biggest mystery of all.

How’d I let this happen? I was safe in my world. Alone. No one to bother me. No one to touch me. Hurt me. Not that I would get hurt. Fuck, now I was being dramatic. There was nothing to get worked up over. Sex was no big deal. Blow your mind and body kind of sex, but still.

We walked across campus to the library, and I triednotto look at him but it was impossible. I was so aware of Kayden now. Every breath, every smile, every burst of chatter, was magnified.

“We have another away game coming up. You excited?”

I nodded, grateful for small talk. “It’s gonna be a good one. I can feel the momentum building.”

“Yeah, things are clicking with the team. Axel and Jace are still at odds, but they’re both killing it. And I think Silas could be great if he focused more. Half the time, his head’s far away. Hit and miss.”

“Maybe he’s got personal shit to deal with. He did take a year off,” I replied. “Anyone know why?”

Kayden shook his head. “Nope. And I don’t want to be the one to ask. He’s not real friendly.”

“Neither am I, and that didn’t stop you,” I scoffed.

“True,” Kayden shrugged. “Maybe I’ll invite him out one night. We can grab a bite, shoot the shit. If it’s just the two of us, he might start talking. It’s worth a shot.”

I wasn’t happy with that idea. Just the two of them sounded like a date.

Listen to yourself. That’s ridiculous.

Still, it didn’t stop the possessive urge I had when it came to Kayden. First, the girls at the party and now this. I should’ve popped edibles earlier. I needed to relax and forget about that fucking kiss…

“And speaking of the away game, we’ve got a two-night stay instead of one,” Kayden added.

That’s right. We were off to Maryland. And Kayden would be sleeping with me. No, notwithme. Next to me.

“What about it?”

“Nothing,” Kayden muttered, as we headed up the library steps.

He ran ahead of me and opened the door, motioning for me to first.

“Stop doing that,” I bit out.

“What?”

“Holding doors for me. Knock it off.”

“Jesus, you’re bitchy today.”

“Today?” I snapped and walked ahead of him. “Every day. Stop doing it. I can open my own fucking door.”

He kept holding the door, and I begrudgingly relented.

We headed inside and I went straight for the desk, requesting a private study room. Usually you had to book online way in advance. Thankfully, the third floor had a cancellation, so we grabbed it. The librarian handed over a keycard, and Kayden and I headed for the elevator.

The study room was at the end of the hall, and offered no windows, and no distractions. But when Kayden closed the door, suddenly this room was a bad idea. Because it was at the end of the hall, and offered no windows, and no distractions…

Just the two of us. And now it was way too fucking hot in here. I yanked at the collar of my shirt. Kayden’s shirt. That didn’t help matters at all.

“Let’s go over the test results and see which parts you had trouble with,” I croaked out.

Kayden snorted. “Like, all of them?”

“Kay,” I warned.
