“Did she think we couldn’t do it ourselves?” Becca hung back while Izzy and Christine checked into their rooms. Caitlyn got in a separate line to add her and Becca’s IDs to Jane’s reservation, as pre-arranged by the woman currently out to lunch. “Because I appreciate her foresight. I hate checking into hotels.” How many times had she checked the three of them in on everyone’s behalf because the married ones were too busy bickering about God knew what now?

Cecelia took Caitlyn and Becca up to their room. As soon as they were inside, Caitlyn dumped her luggage and immediately hopped into the bathroom to change for her first meeting with the pageant directors across the street. Becca heard Izzy blowing up the phone through the closed bathroom door, the two women conferring exactly how Caitlyn should be styled and mannered when she formally introduced herself to the production team and pageant staff.

“Is it like… a real pageant?” Cecelia asked while she and Becca watched Caitlyn’s shadow move beneath the backlit door. “Like on that movie ‘Miss Congeniality?’”

“You’ve seen that movie?”

“I watched it this week after Jane told me how serious this pageant stuff is. I didn’t know America still did events like this.”

“Yeah, well, Caitlyn used to do it professionally.”

Cecelia’s eyes widened in awe. “No way.”

“Yeah, way.”

“Guess that makes sense. She’s really pretty.”

Now, wasn’t that high praise from a teenager? If only Caitlyn heard that.Because all Becca heard that past week was Caitlyn lamenting the lack of lost pounds and inches despite her counting calories and eating healthy enough to kill her love of food. Out of fifteen pounds she aimed to lose, she hadonly managed eight. Becca struggled to understand the issue, especially since the pageant didn’t have such things as weight limits.

But Becca knew better than to say anything about it to Caitlyn. She was in her head, and it wouldn’t abate until the pageant was over, for better or worse.

“How do I look?” Caitlyn bounded out of the bathroom right when Cecelia was about to go back to her and Jane’s suite. “Izzy picked this out for me and brought it to Iowa to try. Is it soft enough? But not boring, right?”

“Damn, Cait.” Becca tilted her head in admiration as her girlfriend sashayed up to her in a white blouse half unbuttoned and tucked into a pair of beige high-waisted pants that cinched at the waist. High heels added length to her already eye catching legs, but it was the way her blond hair lay perfectly coifed on her shoulders and chest that initially captivated Becca’s attention. Then it was the pouty lips lined in mauve and a pair of dangling gold earrings that made her grin like a girl in love all over again. “Knock it out of the park, why don’t you? I can’t tell if you’re going to work or…” She minded the fact that Cecelia was next to her. “On a date.”

“That’s what we were going for.” Caitlyn’s shoulders lost their tension as she appreciated what Becca said. “Well, ladies, I’m off. The meeting is short but full of information, so I’ll be more than happy to join you all for dinner as soon as I’m out. Tell Jane that I’m sorry I missed her but can’t wait to finally be a family again!”

Cecelia walked out with her, vision lingering on every highlighted curve of Caitlyn’s body. When she turned around, motioning to Becca that it was the greatest ass she had ever seen, Becca withheld everything that made her want to die at a teenager acting this way.

“Yes, she is quite hot…” Becca sighed as she closed the suite door. Finally alone for the first time since her shower that morning, she texted Jane that she and Cecelia were in their respective rooms, and that“I am going to rest a bit in my room.”

She shook off her shoes and removed the houndstooth jacket that came with her skirt. After flopping onto her bed with her phone, Becca kicked her feet into the air and threaded her fingers through her hair, which quickly returned to its frizzy roots. So much for that.It was a good thing her partners thought she was hot no matter what texture her hair was that day.

Although one had a definite preference.

“Brilliant look, love.” Becca nearly had a heart attack when she heard Jane in the doorway. “You know I always fancy a quick romp with a half-dressed lady with uncontrolled hair. It is like my birthday right now.”

Becca quickly came back down from her adrenaline and returned to looking at her phone with her finger twirling in her hair. “Do you have a key, or did Cece leave the front door open?”

A keycard flashed between Jane’s fingers before she mimicked sliding it like a credit card down Becca’s ass.As she would say… brilliant. As long as she didn’t actually try it. Becca might cut off her hand for that.

“So, what exactly makes you thinkyouare getting anything right now?” Becca rolled onto her side, thumbs twiddling together as Jane tossed the keycard onto the pillow and her jacket on top of it. “I just got here!”

Becca teased her partner but didn’t protest when she received a tiger-like bite to the neck. Instead, they both went down, Becca flinging her arms around Jane, who delightfully smelled of her new favorite perfume and the pure coffee beans of a corner café.

“I have been missing yousooomuch, Becca.” Jane’s attempt at a standard American accent like the ones her partners spokemade them both laugh. “Do you know how hard this past week has been for me? I had to be aparent! All alone!Wa,woe is me!”

More laughter caught Becca by surprise as she was subjected to Jane’s ludicrous plight. “You haven’t seen Caitlyn for way longer than you and I have been separated.”

“Yes, love, and I would shove my face in her tits right now except she is not here. She still belongs to some pageant that has stolen her away from us. My own wife.” When Becca least suspected it, she was goosed – her startled knee jerk almost nailed Jane right in the abdomen. “Gone. It will be an age before she ever returns to us again!”

“Oh, so you only want me because you can’t have her? I see how it is!”

“No, no, lovely.” Jane straddled her girlfriend as a pillow fell off the bed and Becca’s wrists were snatched into two firm fists. Her laughter finally subsided with perfect timing, because she wasn’t sure her diaphragm could take much more. “You are now my one and only. Do you not see? Me, the dejected, abandoned widow to fame and fortunes, and you, my new one true love.”

“You sound like you’re on a soap opera! What is even happening?”

Another perfectly timed kiss to her neck made her whoop in ticklish fervor. “What is happening is my apparent sorry attempt at seducing you into a quickie, Becca. My God, have I really lost my touch in one week?”
