“Good, now I’ll let you call or talk to her on shift, but if you’ll excuse us now, I really need to get her ready for that first shift.” She indicated we should leave, and I was quickly out the door behind her.
“They’re… something else,” I said, not really knowing what I’d meant to say.
“Yeah.” She seemed a bit more relaxed now that we were away from those clashing alpha egos. “Grey isn’t bad. He’s actually a huge softy once you get to know him, but Ramsey brings out the worst in him.”
I nodded. I’d seen that firsthand.
“Ramsey is pretty much what you see: a horny and cocky ass, who is hot enough and persuasive enough to get what he wants when it comes to most things, especially women. Don’t let him persuade you.” Harmonia shrugged. “Unless you really want to be persuaded.”
Curious, I asked. “Have you beenpersuaded?”
Harmonia sighed. “I’ve resisted… so far. But enough of my staff have beenpersuadedthat I have a good idea what he’d be like.”
“And?”
“From what I’ve heard, he doesn’t disappoint, but he also doesn’t stick around. If you want love or a lasting relationship, stay away from him. If you want a mind-blowing one-night stand, then by all means, bepersuaded.” She stopped to look me in the eyes. “But I’d caution against it. As long as you say no, you have all the power over him. He’ll hate it but he’ll be at your mercy.”
Huh, interesting advice.
That reminded me though… I’d been roped into having those two men take me out. Not that I minded, but given how potent they were, I wasn’t sure how well I’d resist any advances they might make. So much forNo Men.
Oh and… “I think my purse is in your office still, mind if I grab it?” I asked. It was time for some new undies.
“Sure,” Harmonia said. “And when you get back, let’s have a chat about these mobsters that want money from you.”
Oh… right… she knew about that.
Fuck.
ANAIS
“And you’resure they’re just humans?” Harmonia asked about the gangsters.
“They didn’t react to me like you daemons do.” I was — slowly — getting a handle on this new terminology and also the fact thatIwasn’t human. That was still messed up, but then so was I. “So, I assume that means human?”
She nodded. “And they want two hundred and fifty million?” she said it like it was nothing. “In a week?”
“Yup. Six days now.”
Harmonia blew out a breath. “Let me see what I can do. There may be other ways around this. Try not to worry about it too much for now. We daemons help each other.”
I blinked. “You’d do that? Help me with this?”
“Of course. Your life is very unharmonious at the moment and I’m compelled to fix that.” She smiled.
I threw my arms around her in an embrace. “Oh, thank you! You don’t know what that means to me!”
“I… I think I do. Now, let’s get out there and start your shift, shall we?” She escorted me out to the bar and oversaw the first portion of my shift.
Luckily, once I was working, I began to feel normal. The bar was just like any other bar, except the patrons — who looked normal — were apparently all daemons.
That would explain why the last time I was here — walking through the lounge — I’d thought they were all gangsters and hitmen. They gave off an aura of power and a don’t-mess-with-me-ness. But when they came to the bar to ask for drinks, most of them seemed normal, even… nice.
I’d almost forgotten about Grey and Ramsey — okay, yeah, I wasn’t soon going to forget either of those gorgeous men — when they both stormed into the lounge. Instantly, the entire place was filled with the tension and animosity they exuded.
“Now what?” I whispered.
Harmonia gave a soft breathy laugh. “Now we watch the show.”
