“What changed? You can’t actually like the man, can you?” When I don’t respond, she slowly laughs. “Oh my god. You do! You care for him now. Need I remind you, Aurora, hemurderedyour father?”
“No. I don’t think he did.”
“Then you’re delusional.”
“I’m not going to kill him. And neither are you. End of discussion.”
Anger courses across Beatrice’s expression. “You don’t get to tell me what to do, girl.”
“Yes, I do. I’m married to Nico Mancini. I have more power than you do. And I’m carrying his child.”
Beatrice blinks. “You’re pregnant.”
“I am. Nico would never hurt me now. I’m safe with him, and I’ve decided I’m not going to kill him. I’m going to live my life with him.”
Beatrice turns away from me and leans over the table in the corner. “You’re going to ruin everything because you couldn’t keep your legs closed?”
“You wanted me to seduce him. Make him fall in love with me.”
“Yes. But I never said you should fall in love with him!” she screams and turns back around to face me. I see the knife in her hands, and I don’t have time to react before …
… she stabs me in the stomach.
I gasp and clutch her arms. “Why?”
“Because I won’t let you ruin this for me.” She pulls the knife out of my stomach, and I drop to the ground as blood seeps out of me.
Beatrice steps over my body and heads for the door.

AURORA
Iwatch, gripping my bleeding stomach, as Beatrice opens the door and stabs Jeremy in the neck before he can react. He stumbles into the room, grabbing for his gun, but Beatrice knocks it out of his hand. Pushing on his shoulders, she forces him to the ground, where he bleeds out.
“You’re not going to get distracted with a baby,” Beatrice warns me. “You’re going to kill Nico.” She makes a phone call, telling someone to come clean up Jeremy’s body, before she leaves me lying on the floor.
My own aunt is willing to let me die. I need help.
I need Nico.
But Nico is in jail right. I have no one else.
An idea hits me. There’s one person who could probably get Nico out of jail. One person who’s protective of Nico and wants to make sure nothing harms him.
Andrew.
I have his number because Nico gave it to me in case of emergencies. My hands are bloody as I grab my phone from my bag and call him. This is a risk. Andrew could leave me here to die, but then Nico wouldn’t be happy about it, and I don’t think Andrew wants to piss off Nico.
“Who is this?” Andrew asks after answering.
“It’s Aurora. I’ve been stabbed. I need help.”
He’s quiet for a long time. “I’m working on getting Nico out of jail. Call 911. They’ll be able to you better than I can.” Then he hangs up on me.
I roll onto my back, tears streaming down my face. Never in my life have I felt this alone. I work up the strength to call 911 and tell them where I am. The dispatcher talks to me on the phone, but I can’t hear her because everything starts to go black.
