“That’s an understatement.”
“But he can’t control you.”
I shake my head. “It doesn’t matter. Earlier Dex said he wanted to clear things up about what happened at the cabins. I’m sure he’s just gonna tell me he was drunk and stupid. Which is fine. I’ve done pretty good acting like it never happened.”
A quick knock on my open door grabs our attention.
“Hey Vi. Oh, and Monique,” Dex says with a grin. “Heading down for lunch now.”
“We’re coming,” I answer.
He stays at the door with a smile before he nods and walks away.
Monique slowly spins around and grins. “He likes you.”

The dining hallis a long and narrow rectangular room with one table in the center that seats six people, and then two four seater tables on either side, with several two seaters pushed against the walls.
Each white cloth covered table has a candelabra in the center, giving off a warm glow. Along one of the walls is a buffet style table with several covered dishes.
“Think we’ll see the cook?” I ask Scarlet as we grab our plates.
“Probably not. I just hope the food is good.”
“I wish I had packed more snacks,” Monique says.
“I have plenty,” I tell her.
“You gonna share?” Dex asks, showing up out of nowhere, a smile on his handsome face.
“Depends.”
“On what?”
“How nice you ask.”
Scarlet and Monique giggle, moving on to give us time to ourselves. They’re both aware of my crush on Dex. I’ve been talking about him to them for over a year now.
“I can be nice.”
I uncover a couple containers in front of me and breathe a sigh of relief. “Steak medallions. Yum. I was worried it was gonna be some sort of sloppy joe type meat.”
“Who knew you were so picky about your meat,” he jokes.
“Some call it picky, some call it standards.”
“I’m smart enough to know you’re implying I have no standards.”
I grin. “I didn’t say that.”
“What’s over here?” Trevor asks, coming up on my right. “Steak! Fuck yes. There’s pasta and potatoes on the other side. I think I saw salad, too.”
“Thanks,” I reply, moving around him.
Once there’s no more room on my plate, I head to the table Monique and Scarlet are sitting at.
“Not bad for a creepy ass ghost house, huh?” I say, sitting across from them.
