Closing my eyes, I scrub my hands down my face. I have to prepare her for Markus’s interrogation. Knowing my team leader, he will be blunt, probably asking her straight up if we’ve had sex and if she has feelings for me.

I can’t let her go through that without explaining to her what to expect. Unfortunately, that includes telling her about the vow I made more than a millennia ago to never have sex with a human. But how can I do that without telling her how I feel about her?

“Fuck!” I sit down on my bed and put my head in my hands. After 1,235 years of following the rules, I meet a woman who changes everything. A compassionate, strong, and beautiful woman whom I would happily give up my life for to make sure she’s safe and happy.

I stand and walk out of my room. At least that’s one thing I can still do right. I can do everything in my power to make sure that fucking vampire dies tonight.

When I reach the office, I turn on the computer I used earlier. Then I call Ron.

“Ron.”

His curt tone would have made me laugh if I wasn’t so worried. Ron is almost as short on the phone as Markus.

“It’s Lucas. Have you found anything for me yet?”

“Yes, have you checked your email? I sent you two videos and a picture about half an hour ago. The picture is taken outside a nightclub in Queens, and one of the videos is from a camera located just down the street from the club. The other video is from a camera in a residential area in Long Island.”

“Logging in now.” I quickly log into my email account and open the email from Ron.

“Does it look like the guy you’re after?”

I study the picture of a tall man who has the same features as the man in the drawing I sent Ron earlier. Fury boils in my gut, and I barely stop myself from punching the screen. “Maybe.”

“I’ll send you whatever else I can find.”

“Thanks, Ron.”

Ron ends the call, and I take a look at the map he sent me. The location of both cameras as well as the nightclub are marked on the map. I’ll show it to Erica as soon as she wakes up. If my suspicions are correct, one of the cameras is located close to her apartment building.

After watching the videos, I get up and start pacing. The first video was from Friday night, two nights before the vamp attacked Erica in her apartment. The picture was taken on Saturday night, a couple of hours before he killed the young woman in the alley. The second video was from last night, probably indicating that he was keeping watch to see if Erica would return to her apartment.

Staking out the area around her apartment might be the best way to catch this guy. I’m almost one hundred percent certain this asshole won’t give up until he’s found Erica, and he will probably keep watching her apartment for a few days until he realizes she isn’t coming back.

I turn off the computer and go back to my bedroom. It’s still a bit early to wake Erica, so I head straight for the shower.

Erica

He’s staring at me with his cold ice-blue eyes from where he’s standing in the doorway to my kitchen. His lips are peeled back in a snarl, his long canines on display.

I can’t move, my feet frozen to the spot, but I let out a high-pitched scream.

In an instant, he’s right in front of me, staring down at me with menace in his eyes.

Then, his eyes start to warm and turn into the beautiful shade of blue I already know so well. His hand gently circles my wrist before he brings it slowly up to his mouth.

“Erica?” His voice is dark and sexy, and I feel it like a rush of heat through my body, settling between my legs.

Chapter 34

Erica

“Erica!”

I wake up with a start and stare directly into Lucas’s worried blue eyes.

“I heard you screaming when I got out of the shower. Were you having a nightmare?”
