“He’ll watch in awe as we slaughter his pretty little sheep,” Azrael hummed in excitement.

I expected everyone to stand. I expected them to speak to each other, to mingle, but nobody save for the priest, moved a muscle

My muscles tightened as I scanned the small area. Interesting.

“Well,” Azrael smiled, reaching for his gun, “this just got exciting.”

Fuck.

I watched the priest carefully, studying him as he made his way to the back of the church. We had five people in the rows behind us, twenty in total in the church, not including Louis himself.

This was going to hurt.

Azrael was already pulling his gun out, so I decided to lunge for the pew. None of them were attached to the ground, and despite them being wood, they would make for a good enough shield for a few seconds.

Things would happen fast, too quick for a normal mind to keep track so I had to rely solely on instinct.

I calmed my mind, every muscle in my body, and watched as the priest opened the door.

Seconds ticked by like hours.

The throw of the lock was the first gunshot that soundedthrough that church before everything broke into motion.

Azrael and I hit our knees, throwing the pew up to shield us as Azrael slid his gun under the pew we had just been sitting in, raining bullets across the feet of the men and women who had been sitting behind us.

Their bullets, which had been aimed at us, flew above us before they fell, killing off four others.

11 left before we could get to Louis.

The bullets stopped and Azrael returned to my side. “This is why I hate churches,” he commented.

I rolled my eyes.

“I assume you will claim to spare the lives of everyone here if only I stepped out?” Louis called confidently.

“We’re not in the profession of ‘sparing lives’,” I replied coldly.

“You spared mine.”

I worked my jaw, hand tightening around the handle of my gun.

“Chit chat issoboring,” Azrael hummed. “I don’t see why you people waste your time with it.”

For once, I had to agree with him. I was tired of waiting. I wanted to get home.

With a second-long glance towards my brother, we broke into action.

He went left, I went right. It took hardly a thought. See a person, shoot them. I would never be able to thank Beckett enough for the skills he had given me to build on all those years ago.

Bullet’s whizzed passed me, the sound echoing around the small church as I sprinted for Louis who was now standing where the priest had just been.

A man attacked from my right. It took no energy to slam the butt of my gun into his eye socket, sweeping my foot under his, causing him to hit the edge of a pew, killing him instantly.

A woman to my left lunged, only for a bullet to exit her head, splattering me with blood and nearly hitting my arm.

Fucking Azrael.

I shot two more people on my way up the dais and finally lunged for the man who had ripped me away from my girl.
