“That must be quite a tough text message,” A smile broke out on my face at the sound of Sasha’s sleepy voice. I glanced over my shoulder and found her half-awake and staring at me with those captivating eyes of her.
“Something like that,” I admitted, placing my phone down and laying back down beside her. She snuggled back into my arms willing making my heart beat a lot faster.
“What time is it?” She asked.
“Just after 8,” I replied
We snuck back into her room last night—we weren’t ready to go back to our rooms separately and she didn’t have to persuade me to join her because I wanted to be with her.
Last felt like a dream for a moment when she told me that she loves me and I wanted to make sure it wasn’t.
I didn’t come here to pressure her to tell me that she loves me. I came here as a friend to support her and last night seeing her sneak out of her room when I returned from the lobby, I decided to take a chance to inform her that I was here without any bad intentions. Only it took a big turn when she confessed her feelings for me.
I was a bit cautious because I wasn’t ready to get my heart broken again, but hearing her say those words to me… was the best thing I’ve heard in years. The last good news came when I got picked for the Gladiator team but hearing her confess that she loves me will forever be the best day of my life.
One part of me knew that she didn’t forget about me when I saw she still had the rings I gave her and she kept them close. It’s all I needed to know that we weren’t over, yet and we still stood a chance.
“Your friend that came around last night looking for you…”
“Oh, that’s Camille,” Sasha said sitting up.
“The Iron Maiden fan and at badass engineer?” I noted.
Sasha nodded with a smile. “The same girl who shot you in your manhood.”
I chuckled and sat up. “Should I be afraid of what she’ll do to me when she hears we are dating?” I pushed loose strands of her hair aside and cupped her cheek. There wasn’t a chance I was going to waste my touching and kissing privileges.
“They were cheering for you all this time because they are aware of how stubborn I am and had to hear it since they arrived.”
I loved the small gasp escaping from her mouth when I found her lips.
“I know,” I whispered breaking the kiss, but not moving away. “It’s because of that why I didn’t quit.”
I watched her eyes fill up with tears. “I am sorry I was such a fool.”
“We are all fools when it comes to love, angel,” I assured her and pressed a kiss to her temple.
She shook her head. “When Jaylin asked me if I trust you, I didn’t hesitate because I always trusted you—more than myself. I shouldn’t have overreacted and should have trusted you and my instincts.”
“We learn from our mistakes and all of this must have been overwhelming for you. Dealing with your feelings on your own while I was in Manchester. It’s your first relationship and everything is still confusing because your emotions are all over the place.”
“I knew by then that I loved you,” She confessed and it only made my heart flutter to know how she feels.
“I knew from the moment I saw you back in high school that I want to marry you one day.” I know I was playing with fire by reaching so far into the future, but I knew exactly what I wanted.
Nothing else matters in my life.
I can be a champion, have the biggest house or the best-designed ice hockey kit, but none of them matters to me how much she means to me.
“What if I wasn’t what you expected?” She asked.
“I doubt it because I knew every part of you. I saw and still see a girl with a strong and loving heart. She doesn’t bring people down instead she lifts them up even when they don’t deserve it. She challenges life because she loves a challenge, but she knows when to back out.”
“I didn’t fall in love with your face or body.” I brushed my knuckles over her cheek.
“I fell in love with your heart and the person living in there.”
I moved closer to her to take her face in my hand and angle her head so my lips were hovering over hers. “You are worth the risk, Adams.”
