He glanced at her. “I don't either. We missed something somewhere.”

He took a picture of the necklace and sent it off to Charlie, then he called her.

“What the hell is that?” Charlie said as soon as she picked up.

“We have no fucking idea. Blade kept a logbook of all his deals, and we thought it was up here. All the clues pointed here. We get to the PO Box and he’s hidden a damn necklace for his mother.”

“That is very strange. Well, regardless, you need to find a place to hide out for a while. The deaths of the SEALs at that hotel has set off a huge investigation. The sooner you get that logbook, the better, but they’re swarming up there. You need to get out of that town and find a place to hide out for a couple of days.”

“Gotcha. The cartel is on our ass, too. We had a run-in with them at Blade’s parent’s place.”

“Is there a mess to clean up?”

“Not really. Although they might still be stuck down in that lower field. If the Navy happens to head in that direction, it might be a fun meet-up.”

“Maybe I’ll put a bug in someone’s ear… Get out of Jersey and find a place to hide. No cards, no IDs. Can you do that?”

“We’ll certainly try,” he said, feeling tired.

“Rowan okay?”

“She’s fine. Taking care of my lame ass.”

“What do you mean? Are you injured?”

“Just a scratch. A cartel boss got off a good shot on my shoulder.”

Charlie sighed. “Another reason to go to ground, then. I’ll keep an eye on the Navy and let you know when they return to base. I can’t do anything about the cartels. That’s on you.”

“We can deal with it. We’re good.”

“Okay. Go chill out. Get some supplies and wait till you hear from me.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

He looked at Rowan. “You heard that?”

“Most of it. The Navy is looking for us.”

“Yes. We need to find a place to chill for a while.”

“Okay. Can I see your phone?”

She started paging through maps, looking for something specific. “I think if we head west, I can get my bearings and find a place. I know a guy with a cabin. We might be able to charm him into letting us stay a while.”

Wyatt glanced at her sharply, but Rowan didn’t respond. Powering up her phone, she paged through her contacts, pressing a button. A male voice answered on the other end of the line.

“Hey, Uncle Brett. I'm gonna keep this short, cuz I have to turn off my phone. Ken fucked me when he died. Imagine that. I need a place to hide out. Is the cabin available?”

“That fucking asshole,” he grumbled. “For some reason, I'm not surprised. Yeah, it's available and I've paid the doc fees. Not sure what the cabin’s like. I haven't been up there for a couple years.”

“I'm not worried about the dirt. We’ll take care of that.”

“Are you okay, baby? Some men went to your dad’s asking about you. He told them you were out of the state.”

Tears started in her eyes. “Yeah, I'm good, Brett. I gotta go. Keep your gun handy till you hear from me, okay?”

“Gotcha, babe.”
