“Hell, they could be anywhere.” Ben was already grabbing his keys from his pocket.
“We weren’t very far away. Meyra said it was just a few miles up the road from the turn. Preston Road. It was only like ten minutes ago. You have to hurry. There were other men there, she said, including that Mr. King. Meyra said. And they had guns. You have to hurry. They had guns, and they already killed people. Including the baby’s daddy. He’s dead. He’s dead and I don’t know what happening to my sister and Meyra and Brandt right now! Hurry!”
Quade was two steps behind Ben and Fletcher.
He looked up—Dusty and Nikki were leading Dorie and the baby she held inside. Gil was calling for ranch hands, telling the first one right there to guard Dorie and the baby and the women no matter what.
Hunter and Tucker were already halfway to Hunter’s truck. Quade jogged after them.
People were in trouble. He was going to help. No matter what.

Brandt foundher footprints in the light covering of snow. She wore distinctive boots, and had narrow feet. Brandt knew she had gotten outside, but there were other footprints right beside hers.
His blood chilled at what it meant.
There were tire tracks leading out of the lot.
Meyra was gone.
Terror filled him. He needed a phone. Those assholes had taken his fucking phone and cut the lines on the landline. He had nothing. He was going to have to find help.
That meant checking for keys. There were two trucks and a damned semi right there. The semi was idling. He knew truckers left them idling. But there could also be someone inside.
If nothing else, there would potentially be a radio he could use to send a signal for help.
This was a popular highway. People traveled it all the time.
If he couldn’t find transportation, he would damned well hitchhike until he found her.
The engine on the semi was running, but the doors were locked. He needed something to break the window.
Brandt ran back inside. There had to be something he could use somewhere. Or he’d search those assholes for their keys.
Not like they would need them now.
He had just made it to the doors when the sound of a large truck came.
His hand tightened on the grip of his handgun. He had one bullet left.
He’d used two inside.
The driver pulled the truck into the parking lot faster than they should have.
Parked.
Then the doors opened.
And two beautiful women stepped out.
Brandt couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Meyra!”
He took off running. And didn’t stop until he could touch her.
