Page 3 of Her Trick His Treat

Sigh.

“Cam? Look, Del might not be coming because she is as big as a house, carrying that giant baby of hers. Do not tell her I said that! Oh, Rena and Jeremy are coming. You remember her, right? Morena?”

“Yep. I remember,” I said.

I liked Jan’s friends,orI guess I just liked their taste in books. We never really hung out. I was a few years younger than Jan and I’d moved right after senior year.

The few times I’d visited, I never went out.

That was me. Yep. Total introvert.

Curvy and geeky with glasses and everything, I knew I was destined for life alone.

I guess I was a true nerd girl. The thing was, I used to think Jan was like me.

But not anymore.

Jan, Del, and her friend Rena had all found their happy ever afters with hunky guys who were crazy about them.

Unbelievable. And yet, it happened. For all three of them.

I was the odd man, er, woman, out.

I wasn’t jealous.

Much.

I mean, okay I was only human, so yeah there was some yearning there inside of me for a Prince Charming of my own.

Only maybe not so Disney. In my fairytale, I wanted Prince Charming to come and take charge, tell me what to do.

Which would be super handy, me being a virgin and all.

Fuck, what was Jan saying?

“Camryn, are you listening? I am texting the bar’s address.”

I listened as she rattled off more reasons I should join them tonight. Being back in New Jersey was supposed to be better for me, but I hadn’t counted on how pushy Jan was.

Guess I forgot. But hey, being back was good. I got to see the leaves change, right?

“Please, please, please come out tonight!”Jan whined some more.

“Oh my God, Jan. Fine. I’ll go, just stop begging.”

“Yasssss!”

Ouch!

I closed my eyes and exhaled, hoping this would not turn out to be the worst decision I’d made in a long time.

Come on, Cam, it’s just a party. Live a little.

An idea began to form as I scribbled down the address and hung up on my still screeching cousin.

Everyone expected mousy little Camryn to show up tonight.

But what if I surprised them?
