We make it in time to wear our swimsuits when her friends have started to arrive.
“Ash! The hell are…” A petite blondie freezes while her eyes land on me. “Oh hello there, I’m Lily.”
“Rock, nice to see you again.”
She arches a brow. “Wait, again?”
“We met at Ashley’s birthday party.” Why on earth do I feel so nervous?
“Oh my, hi.” She pulls me in a hug. “My memory is like Dory’s.” She giggles.
“Dory’s being?”
“She forgets everything right away, like Dory in the movie.” Ash joins us. “Hey beauty.” The two of them hug but Lily is still eyeing me.
“I heard Kelly saying the club’s hunk hooked you up but dang girl, I thought it was the bartender.”
“Not my type,” Ash moves away, and I wrap her in my arms.
“Ash!”
I tense as I pull Ash closer, shielding her. She pats my arm. “Gerry and Levy are here.”
We move toward the door, and I see the Harleys lined up in the parking lot inside the gate.
“They’re with me,” Ash says. “The party is in the backyard.”
Kelly, if I’m not wrong, comes by and follows her ex with a girl.
“Prez, Princess.” I can see they’re not relaxed but then Denise comes to hug Ash.
“Come on, let’s get it started,” she winks at me while pushing a button that closes the gate.
“They’re with you, huh?”
She gets on her tiptoes and kisses me. “Well… my friends are like my family.” My heart flutters while I caress her cheek.
We follow the others while the music fills the air. “Okay guys, let's get it right and start with the presentation.” I can sense her nervousness and so do the guys. They’re amused, but I can see how much it means for them too. “Blue, Denise, Bonnie, Brick, Mac, Doc and you already met Rock.” She points to us before doing the same with her friends. “They’re Luke, Kelly, Lily, Levy, Gerry, Amanda and Blake.”
We exchange handshakes while her cell phone chimes, she peers at it before placing it on the table. “Make yourself at home. As Lily said, that’s our Satfam.” I can help but chuckle gaining a few amused looks while Ash turns around with a cocked brow.
“Sorry Princess,” I shake my head while taking my seat.
I was afraid it wouldn’t work but after a while her friends got used to us and seeing the boys having fun warms my heart.
“Hey, Rock, you're up for a volleyball game?”
“Why not.” I answer Luke. He's a great guy and funny too. I take off my shirt, throwing it to Ashley. She catches and smells it,giggling with her friends. I haven't had so much fun in a while. I could get used to this paradise.
Seeing Ashley cheer for me makes me feel important. I don't know how she managed to win my heart, but I want this happiness and more for us.
Once back on our stools, Ash hands me a beer, and I pull her closer.
I catch Blake looking at her for longer than I want him to but I keep it cool for the sake of this day.
“Guys your tattoos are incredible,” says Luke while following with his eyes the patterns on Brick’s arm.
“Thank you, Mac is our artist.” He gulps some beer.
