“Then you better let my men in and call your other friends. We’ve got some plans to make,” Arthur says.

We showup to the gym to finish setting up for the party. There are people everywhere, and being around them makes my breath stutter in my chest. I lean against the wall and try to focus on my breathing.

“You don’t have to be here,” Sin says, coming up along my side.

I jump when he speaks. “I’m fine,” I argue. We both know I’m lying.

“You aren’t fine.” He pulls me against his chest. “Don’t overdo it.”

“We don’t know that I’m pregnant.”

“Raven, I’d be worried about you either way. I’ll tell you every day if you need to hear it. You are everything to me.”

“I love you too,” I tell him.

“If you’re determined to be here, let’s get you suited up.”

I follow him up the stairs to the room we used when we stayed here. On the bed he has a specialized belt, pins for my hair, and a bracelet with a knife concealed inside.

I sling the belt around my waist. The handles are jeweled and look like peacock feathers embossed on a black leather belt. The ends of the pins have the same feather detail.

Amber peeks her head in the door. “I’ll do your hair.”

Sin kisses the side of my head. “I’ll be downstairs if you need me.”

Amber gets to work twisting up my hair and placing the pins. “There, now you’re the most dangerous beauty at the party.”

“I guess we better get down there then,” I say.

The catering staff looks normal enough, but there are small details that seem a bit off. Like the fact they seem too alert for minimum wage workers, and all of them are in much too good of shape.

“People are starting to line up for the party. There are metal detectors at the door. This place is crawling with security.” He points up to the loft. “I’m going to be up there with Ted and Lucien. As soon as we get the signal we’ll be down here, but don’t think we can’t respond from up there.”

Lucien hands Sin a rifle. “I’ll be running the security system. Sin’s a better shot.”

Sin kisses me on the head then disappears into the shadows like the ghost I first thought he was.

Tessa comes and links her arm with mine. “Showtime. Jesse and his crew are in line. He called me earlier to confirm you are with me without your husband.”

“If you’re lying to me, one of the knives I’m wearing has your name on it,” I warn her.

“And think, I thought you were a weak little thing when we met. I might end up liking you after all.”

“You’re a weird person, Tessa.”

“C’mon, Sin and Ford made up.”

“They hit each other first,” I point out.

She laughs. “Well, that’s because they’re idiots.”

Remembering the two of them trading punches, I nod. “True.”
