“Yeah, there’s one. I’ll text you the address. I’ll call my guys and have them back you up. I can’t leave my little girl.”

“I’ll do the best I can,” I tell him and end the call. I wish I could tell him I’d get her back, but few know how big of a sadist Damien is like I do.

Lucien and Ted burst through the door with Raven on their heels. “Damien just called me. He ordered us to a warehouse on the docks. Said if we don’t bring Raven he’ll kill Tessa.”

She steps in front of her brother. “I’m going.”

“Absolutely not,” I say.

“She’s not dying because of me. I’m going.”

Lucien shakes his head. “We don’t know that she’s even still alive. I’m sorry, Ford, but with Damien it’s possible she’s already dead.”

“He has our mother, Luce,” Raven begs.

“Yeah, but he doesn’t have you.”

“You sure about that?” Damien asks from the doorway.

Shane, Amber, and Jen are shoved into the hall behind him by some of his soldiers. “Looks like we’re all here.” He turns to Lucien. “You should know I can track your phone. This whole thing is sloppy. Not your best work.”

“Bring in the others,” he barks.

Holbrook comes in dragging Tessa and Natalie.

“You son of a bitch!” I shout and take a step towards him.

Damien takes out a gun and points it at me. “You know I don’t like getting my hands dirty, but I will shoot you if I have to. Right now you have value to me. Don’t change that.”

“I hear you’ve been trying to dig up dirt on me. Think you can bring me down?” he asks me.

I say nothing. Maybe it’s a response from years of trauma, but I know when to bide my time and listen.

“I’ve known about Gerrick’s spy for a while, but what he didn’t realize is that everyone has a price. His guy’s wasn’t even that high. Imagine my surprise when I heard that my family was working behind my back to bring me down. Looks like I need to teach you a lesson.”

“I’m going to start with this upstart little shit.” He turns his gun on Jesse. “You came to me wanting to get into the business. Jones told you to get my daughter, and you thought you could leverage my blood to climb the ladder? You actually believed I wanted you to take my daughter?”

“C’mon, man, you’re the one who promised to turn her out once she lost her cherry. I’m just going after what was promised,” Jones argues.

“You heard what you wanted to hear. Your filthy hands aren’t to touch my daughter. She’s worth more to me in a ballroom than your bedroom.”

“She’s a piece of ass. You’ve said so yourself. Women are only worth one thing, remember?” Jones says, like he still has power in this equation.

Damien lifts his gun and pulls the trigger, sending a bullet right between the eyes of Len Jones. “Now you’re just meat.”

“Your turn, junior,” Damien says pointing the gun at Jesse.

The smell of piss fills the air, and a wet spot spreads across his pants.

“Jesus. You want in my world and piss yourself when a gun is pointed at you?”

“You aren’t worth the bullet,” he says and lowers his gun.

“He’ll talk,” I tell him. I know what that means in Damien’s world. Jesse is too big of a risk. A different man would care, but I’ll work any angle I have to get Raven and our friends out of here in one piece.

“You’re right.” He raises the gun again and pops off three shots. One for Jesse and then in both of his friends.

Damien shakes his head at me. “Your instincts are still good, too bad you’re a traitor.”
