“I’ll get things gathered,” I reassure her. “Is there anything you don’t want me touching or seeing?”

She sits there to think for a moment. She doesn’t look disturbed at the idea. She appears more intrigued as she settles on the idea.

“Nope,” she ends up saying and even shrugs. “Nothing to hide. I think the only thing I do need to gather myself is my work stuff.” She frowns at the idea of not being able to let me look at such material. “There’s a confidentiality clause between me and the clients, so I have to manage the documentation on that end, but everything else is fine.”

“Perfect,” I give her a small smile. “I won’t touch paperwork.”

“Much appreciated,” she returns my smirk with a smile that’s filled with relief. She looks almost rejuvenated after all the pent-up tension was seeping into her frame and face earlier. “I won’t take long.”

“If you have to, don’t rush.” I can pull strings to ensure we get out of here, regardless of a lockdown.Velvet wouldn’t fight me on that.“Be good in there.”

She giggles.

“If I’m not, I feel like you’ll punish me for misbehaving.”

“I could,” I hum playfully. “But then we’ll never leave here.” I give her a wink that has her face red in seconds.

“I’m going.” She rushes to get off the bed. I end up hooking my arm around her waist, stopping her from attempting to leave. “Hmm?”

“You don’t have jelly legs?” I ask her curiously. She further blushes, and there’s that spark of sass that flickers in those gorgeous eyes of hers.

“Nope!” she huffs and pulls out of my hold. “Perfectly fin— EEP!”

This is exactly why I hadn’t moved away, my arm hooking around her waist a second time before she can finish her sentence. She’s so light in my grasp, and it’s easy to lift her back up so she’s on the bed with me.

The embarrassment is obvious on her face, and I’m not making it any better with my taunting smile. Glaring my way with pouting swollen lips, she huffs and slowly hooks her arms around her breasts so I’m not ‘distracted.’

“What do you have to say?” I playfully ask, which is kind of mean, but I like igniting different expressions from her. It takes her a few seconds to answer, but she lets out a huff in defeat.

“Okay. You were right,” she grumbles and further narrows her eyes. “I need help.”

“You don’t like asking, do you?” I hum teasingly. Getting out of bed in a smooth movement, scoop her up in seconds. She’s surprised by the princess treatment, but her curiosity further spreads in the depths of her eyes as she peers up at me.

“It’s not like I don’t like it,” she admits. “I just never had anyone to rely on in my life to enjoy asking for assistance.”

I dislike the idea of her being so independent in life. I grasp that she still has a connection with her dad and his pack, but because of her problematic, needy mother, she’s been left abandoned, as if she has no one to give her the support she needs.

That ends now.

“You’re going to rely on me from now on,” I whisper with conviction. “Understood?”

“But…” I see the hesitation in her eyes.

I want to get rid of it entirely.

“No matter the future,” I begin to keep her attention on me. “I’ll always have your back from now on.”

“Even… even if you end up getting a different Omega?” she quietly whispers. She may be trying to hide it, but I can see the yearning in her eyes.

Yearning to be loved but fear of being abandoned… yet again.

“Even if that’s the final end result,” I assure her. “She’ll just have to accept I’ll be a part of your support system. At least, until we’re satisfied with whoever your pack will be and reassured you’ll be taken care of like the precious diamond you are.”

Lowering her when we reach the bathroom, I grasp her cheeks and lay a solid kiss on her lips.

“Yes?” I offer, wanting to hear her confirmation.

“Yes,” she whispers in return, and there’s that twinkle of relief. “Thank you, Kai.”
