Page 33 of Under the Radar

A group of teenagers only feet away hung onto a large raft. Mac maneuvered himself and Mo behind them to avoid detection from the sand. A man riding a beach vehicle approached the lifeguard chair and showed him something. The lifeguard shook his head, and the man climbed on his off-roader, waving for his compadres to head for the street.

Mo nudged her nose against his and gave him a feather-light kiss. “Are you feeling better? Cooled down?”

Relief spread through his chest as the posse left. “Yeah, much better. I’m enjoying myself.” He kissed a trail across her shoulder, taking a moment to feel the satin of her skin, the firm cheeks of her derriere, and smooth legs wrapped around his torso. They fit together.

Perfectly.

If he was having another stress-induced episode, he really should check himself into a hospital. On the other hand, he’d learned to trust his gut and frequently staked his life on it. Something was going on in South Beach today, and it happened to be in the same vicinity as he and Mo both times. Mac didn’t believe in coincidence. Coincidence was for civilians who weren’t aware of their surroundings.

“A quarter for your thoughts?” Mo kissed his jawline and held on to his biceps.

“Wow. The price has gone up for thoughts. Last I heard they were a penny.” His hands roamed her back and down to the sweet thighs he loved to tease.

“I feel like a lottery winner today after getting three new pairs of Jimmy Choos. I can afford a quarter,” she laughed. “I’m so happy we bumped into each other again. Being with you feels—secure. You always watch my back.” She shook her head. “I hope that statement doesn’t sound needy, because I’m not.”

Mac gazed into her sincere eyes. He couldn’t wait to see those pretty greys darken to midnight when he loved her again. “No. It sounds honest and trusting. You’re the epitome of confident independence. It takes a lot of guts to work in West Baltimore and do what you do for a living.” He caught her lips in a tender kiss as a gigantic swell skimmed over their heads.

They let go of each other and emerged laughing and sputtering for air. Mac pulled her close again as her hand brushed against his family jewels.

“I believe you have me by the balls, Mo.”

“Yes, I do.” She teased his lower lip in a nibbling kiss. “Don’t worry, I’ll be kind to them.
