I turn back and pull the door open just as my stomach growls, and I sigh. I never did get anything to eat. Dammit.

GENESIS

Breaking the news to Havoc about what’s been going down at his MC left a bad taste in my mouth. I could see it plain as day—the violence in his eyes. He wanted to tear the visitor’s room apart. The only thing stopping him was the threat of having time added to his sentence. Knowing what he does now, you can bet your balls he wants out of there as fast as humanly possible.

He agreed to take over as president. I knew it was mostly to stick it to his brother and old club. Fuck, I’d do the same in his shoes. But something tells me that won’t be the only revenge he gets on them.

When we left, Blade seemed just as bothered by it all as me. When I told him I was heading this way to see Amity, he asked to come along, wanting to try to make up for being a dick. I didn’t know what to expect, but it sure as hell wasn’t this shitshow.

“We do security, and if you want us to look into it, we can,” Blade tells the director.

“Actually, that’s perfect,” he says. “I need someone on Monica, and if G’s already here to see Amity, no one will question it. It should make moving around the set easier for you,” he adds, like it’s already a done deal. From the look on Blade’s face, it pretty much is.

“We’ll pay well—and extra to keep it quiet.”

“We know how to be discreet. You okay with this, darlin’?” Blade asks Monica.

She looks up at him and nods. “I feel safer knowing he’s here. The cops have been useless. They won’t do anything until the guy actually kills me.”

“Stalking laws have changed a lot over the years, but they still have a long way to go,” he says, squeezing her arm, the bag in his hand crinkling.

“Crap, I forgot to give Amity her food.”

“I’ll take it to her. I need to head to wardrobe anyway,” she says, holding out her hand for the bag. She takes it from Blade and looks at me, all the cockiness from the other day gone. “What do you need from me?”

“I need to know where you are at all times. I can’t protect you if I don’t know where you are.”

“What about when I’m not on set?” She rubs her free hand up and down her arm.

“I’ll post a prospect outside the hotel,” Blade answers for me.

She nods absently. I don’t know if she even knows what a prospect is, but I guess it doesn’t matter as long as she knows someone’s got her back.

“Okay, thank you.” With a quick nod to the director, she heads to wardrobe.

“I’m going to call the studio to give them a heads-up, then I’ll draw up a contract for you to look over. If you’re happy with the amount and signing an NDA for anyone in your club, we can transfer the money to you later today.”

“Sounds good.” Blade holds out his hand, and they shake before the director yanks his phone out and walks away.

I look at Blade, who’s holding his hand up.

“It’s easy money, and it keeps the reporters and cops from crawling all over town.”

“I get that, but why me?”

“Because, like he said, you’ve got a valid reason for being here. Sure, some of us could swing by, but you could be here every day without anyone raising an eyebrow.”

I let out a sigh and look up, wondering why the universe is fucking with me lately. “Fine,” I say, looking back at Blade. “But if she turns back into a spoiled diva once the shock wears off, I’ll be tapping out, and you’ll be taking over. I don’t give a fuck if it pisses off the President of the United States.”

He raises a brow, knowing I’m full of shit.

And that’s how I end up the disgruntled bodyguard to a Hollywood star.

After the first two weeks, we fall into a groove. I try to spend as much time as possible with Amity outside of work, but when I’m on set, all my focus is on Monica.

I did some digging, and just like the cops, I came up empty. The letters are full of utter shit, providing next to no information. They’re all sent from different cities across the country. Some are flirty, others straight-up threatening. It makes me wonder if we’re dealing with someone who’s got more than one personality.
