Lino’s muffled cries fill my ears, my clit pulsating with need as I keep sucking him down, relishing in the power he just gave me.

“Stop, stop, stop. Oh my God, I’m so sensitive, zitella.” He tugs on my hair and I let him go, a beaming smile on my face.

“How did I do?” I ask, but he doesn’t reply. Instead, Lino drops to his knees and crashes his lips to mine. “You were perfect,” he mutters as he breaks our kiss.

His body covers mine on the floor as he continues to kiss my lips, my nose, my throat, and collarbone. With a deep sigh, he turns on his back and takes me with him. His whole body shakes with laughter and my smile grows until my cheeks ache.

“I haven’t come so hard in so long. Nor have I felt so… light.” His eyes find mine, the grey turned to moonlight with the satisfaction and peace of this moment. “You make me feel light, Vanessa.”

I blush and burrow my face into his chest, not ready to tell him that he makes me feel more than that.

THIRTY

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT A STERN DADDY MELTING FOR HIS BABY GIRL…

“I’d like to take you on a date.”

Lino’s arms surround me and his heart beats against my ear where my head rests against his chest. I press myself up to look at him.

With a feather-light touch, I graze my fingers along his straight nose to his cupid bow and down his plush lower lip. He sucks my index into his mouth with a half smile and I shiver, straightening up and putting a little distance between us. How we get anything said is a miracle as we both battle our desperate need for each other.

It must be close to three in the morning. The open curtains reveal the pitch dark night outside where the loud crickets echo through the open window.

“I thought you wanted to make things clear for Anton and Livia?” I ask, averting my gaze to take in the environment around us. I don’t want to be a dirty secret kept in the dark. I know what I want and if push comes to shove, I’ll choose me. It will be hard to walk away, but my dreams are my priorities and though I feel strongly for Lino, I’m not willing to sacrifice my dreams for him.

My eyes focus on the refined oak furniture to avoid the excuses he might come up with.

With a gentle hand, Lino turns my face back to his. The relaxed, kind smile puts me at ease and soothes the raw edges of my doubt. “I did. They already call you my girlfriend when you’re not around,” he says with a charming grin. “I’d like to take you on a date because as of next week, you’re not my nanny anymore.”

“You’re firing me?” I almost shout, then wince. Jumping off the bed we finally settled on after our moment on the floor, I put distance between us then cross my arms on my chest, begging for him to explain.

“I’m doing this all wrong.” Lino shakes his head, then swings his leg off the side of the bed, holding out his hand. I don’t take it and he lets it plop on his leg in defeat.

“Anton and Livia will be going to summer camp next week, and for the rest of the summer holidays. It’s four days a week and I’m cutting back on my hours at work to be with them when they don’t have camp. Then in September, they’re both going to be in school four days a week, so I’ll keep the same routine.”

His eyes shine with hope as he lays out his plans, but they still don’t include me.

“Where do I come into all this? I need to work, Lino.”

“You can’t work and study at the same time. You need to focus on your dreams.”

“And my dreams aren’t cheap,” I whisper-yell.

“I can take care of that, zitella,” he declares. His posture is relaxed, a light smile I’ve only rarely witnessed gracing his sharp features.

“What does that mean?” Suspicion laces my voice, but Lino senses my hesitation and takes my wrist, pulling me gently to him until I stand in between his spread legs. His very naked legs.

Don’t look down. Stay focused.

“It means you call me Daddy and it’s not just for show or in bed. Let me take care of you, zitella. You can stay with us and study. Stay in the flat if that feels better and focus on you. On what you want to achieve. I’ll take care of the rest. But I want you in our lives. In my life.”

My lips part as I search for any sign of deception. But Lino doesn’t move. His neck bends backwards looking up at me from his seat as he patiently waits for me to give him the answer that will change everything.

I swallow and clear my dry throat, taking a step forward. I have been fighting for so long that letting go feels impossible, but I want to believe in what we have. I just can’t jump in a decision that will change my life while his arms encircle my hips and his smell invades my nostrils to burrow into my heart.

“Tell me more about this date,” I say with a half smile.

Lino smiles up at me, then kisses my stomach before pressing my body to his and climbing up my collarbone and throat with his lips. “It’s a surprise, but why don’t I give you a preview?”
