Prologue

Wrath

The last thing I remember was searing pain in my gut. I can hear the whirl and beep of machines, and the smell of disinfectant.

“I hate hospitals,” I mumble before even opening my eyes.

“I’d feel that way if our positions were switched,” The voice of an angel says.

I pry open my eyes to find my angel is a living, breathing version of nurse Barbie. No wait, as my eyes drink in her platinum blonde hair with black undertones, she reminds me of Bunnie xo. Oh My God; I have such a crush on that woman.

My nurse is dressed in pink scrubs that do nothing to hide her luscious curves. Curves a man could get lost in. I finally remember to look into her eyes, like a gentleman. They’re like looking into a forest at the peak of summer.

“Hello, Mr. Jackson. My name is Millie Barnes. I’ll be your nurse for the next eighteen hours. Your family stepped outside so I can change your dressing and check your vitals.”

“My parents?”

She nods. “And half the state,” she adds with a smile.

I chuckle, then wince. Millie smiles sympathetically at me.

“Sorry. The Kings are here in force in the waiting room, as are your siblings and parents.”

I can’t help but smile at the way she puts me at ease. I watch intently as she checks, then changes my bandages. Whenshe’s finished with the task, she checks my vitals and writes the information on the dry erase board.

“On a scale from one to ten, ten being the worst pain you’ve ever experienced. What’s your pain level right now?”

“Four, the pain meds are working well.”

“Good. I’ll let your family in.”

My eyes are glued to her ass as she walks out of the room. She has a fine fucking ass. F I N E, fine. Decker and Saber walk through the door first. Decker takes one look at my expression and smirks.

“I see you’ve met your nurse,” he says.”

Saber nods his head. “She’s hot and blonde. Right up your alley.”

I smile. “She is at that. Anyone know if she worked with Nay?”

“One way to find out,” Saber says, pulling out his phone.

“Parents and Willow are on their way. We talked them into going home for a shower and change. Half the brothers are in the waiting room. You’ve been out for a day,” Decker adds.

“How’s mom holding up?”

“She’s alright. As soon as you were out of the woods, she calmed down,” Saber answers.

“And pops?”

“Same,” Decker replies.

We spent the next few minutes chatting. Gambit and Stormy make it in to see me about two minutes before my parents descend. Mom spends the next hour hugging my neck and crying.

“Who did this, Gambit?” my pops asks.

“We’re not a hundred percent sure, but we have an idea and they’ll be dealt with. I give you, my word.”
