“But you don’t have the training, Bella,” Boyce argued.

“Silas trained me enough in basics when I was a kid.”

“Of course, he did,” Vincent muttered.

“We have a lot of help, if you could just sit in the car and wait.”

“No, Boyce.” My words were a growl. “I will not.”

Vincent looked to Roth’s group, where they stood waiting, weapons in hand, ready to take on the night. “She won’t. We all know it. Get your fucking shoes on and stay between us. Do not make a single peep. Not a single sound, Bella. I’m warning you.”

My hands shook as I reached for my shoes and put them on my feet, ignoring the fact that I could hear Vincent mumble about how I couldn’t even bother to wear proper footwear. Excuse me, sir, but I was on a time constraint and it wasn’t like I did this for a living. But I kept my thoughts to myself, unwilling to tick them off more. I knew if I did, it could jeopardize my chances of helping in Silas’ retrieval.

When I stood, I heard Gage snort from the group nearby before loudly declaring, “Suckers.”

Vincent didn’t miss the chance to glare at his best friend before warning him, “If you don’t guard her with your life, I’ll twist off your balls myself.”

Gage smirked. “You know how tempting that is for me.”

Fates, but Roth has his handful with that one. Roth cleared his throat. “We’ll talk about this later, Bella.”

Why did his voice make me feel almost weak when the power was directed toward me? “I understand.”

I did understand, but I still regretted absolutely nothing. I would do it all over again. I would face the wrath of them all if it meant getting Silas out of whatever predicament he was in.

Roth did one solid clap of his hands before looking toward everyone. “Good. Let’s get started. The email that was forwarded, the one with the invitation I fucking told Silas to ignore, stated that the dock up ahead was where to meet. Now, his cell phone signal is stuck there.”

“Then what are we waiting for?” I asked, because if he was stuck there in one location, there had to be a reason. He could need help. He could be in danger. We had to find him.

Roth cleared his throat, barely sparing me a glance. “His cell phone signal is at the dock, however, his chip puts him on the island.”

“Chip?” I asked at the same time Boyce said, “Island?”

Roth looked between us, and I swear if a man as solemn as Roth had enough emotion in him to roll his eyes, he would’ve. “All the pack with jobs outside of town have an option to get a location chip. It comes in handy when…well, when a man becomes a dumbass and gets captured.” He looked toward Boyce. “Alcatraz.”

“Shit,” all the men moaned.

“How do we plan to get there?”

“Swim,” Roth answered me.

“But the water is frigid and—”

“He’s joking, baby.” As soon as Vincent said it, I looked up to see the corner of Roth’s lips tilted at just the slightest angle. That had to be his equivalent of laughter, because I’d never seen Roth let his guard down. “Obviously, the only way to get to the Island is by boat. Or submarine, but I doubt any of you have access to that. If you go by air, they would instantly spot you.”

Rig cleared his throat. “We don’t have access to a submarine. However, I procured us a boat, a few jet skis, and proper attire for the water.”

“We’ll meet Rig’s contact in ten minutes, garb up in our suits, and head out. The most important thing I want to empathize is stealth.” Was Roth looking directly at me when he said that? “The plan is they will drop us as close to the island as they can, but we will swim to shore.” Another look at me before he added, “Stealthily. All weapons will be sealed in a waterproof duffle and dispersed at the shore. Once we are dropped, they will head back to the mainland, get the jet skis, and deposit them where they dropped us, then watch from the distance in case we need additional backup. Those on the island will divide into three groups, observed from all angles. Rig, Vince, and I will have communication devices. Boyce, you will need to split up from Vince, use your bond for info. Vince, take the girl. Gage, keep with them. Are we understood?”

Actually, no. I did not understand. Getting to the island wasn’t a real plan, it was a mode of transportation. But where did we go when we got there? What did we do? Did they automatically know where to find him? I opened my mouth, about to ask, when Vince leaned over and whispered in my ear, “Don’t.”

“But—”

“It will make sense when we get there.” I looked over my shoulder at him, his eyes gleaming because he knew me too well. “Which, before you ask, will be within the hour.”

I had been to ask. I needed to know what time frame we were working with here.

“Since there are no questions, let’s get a move on,” Roth announced. Damnit, I had so many questions, but to ask them would only hold up the entire operation.
