Tyler takes a moment to let the concept sink in with his eyebrows pulled together and his mouth hanging open while his little one continues to chomp away on her giraffe in his lap.

“But… I didn’t have that…” he quietly declares.

“So?” Annie shrugs and pops another chip in her mouth.

“But…wehave a deep connection, right?”

“Of course we do, Ty.”

“But you just said-”

“Yes, it seems in exceptional cases,”

“But aren’twean exceptional case? Why didn’t I have the sympathy symptoms?”

“I’m going to check on the pizza,” Annie announces on a heavy sigh as she gets up off the couch and heads to the kitchen. Not to be deterred, Tyler scrambles out of his seat and hands me his baby as he hustles after her.

“Honey? Why didn’tIhave the sympathy symptoms? You know how much I love you, right? I gave up all my wild ways for you! We have a deep connection, don’t we?!”

“God, these things look ridiculous on me,” I frown, looking down at the black bands that adorn my wrists. How the hell am I supposed to be taken seriously when I’m trying to rock out on stage tonight, while wearing Sea Bands?

“No, they look ridiculous onme,” Mayzie argues as she turns to me holding her hands up to show me how they look with her metallic silver dress that matches her eyes. “They look punk rock on you.” She sits down on the bed of our hotel suite and starts rifling through her suitcase until she finds her jewelry bag. “Just put on a leather cuff, or your watch, and no one will notice,” she says reassuringly, as she starts to put on some incredibly dangly silver earrings. Those, along with the few strands of brown hair hanging loose from her bumped up ponytail draw attention to the smooth skin of her neck, making my dick wake up in my black dress slacks.

“That’s not a bad idea,” I agree, taking one last look at the stupid Sea Bands that are oddly helping with my pregnancy nausea, and dig into the side pocket of my suitcase and pull out some leather bracelets, hoping to camouflage the damn things with some rock embellishments.

It’s New Year’s Eve, and we’re in New York City to play on the main stage when the ball drops tonight. I look over to see that my wife is now standing over by the full-length mirror, checking that everything is in place.

“You know you’re a smoking hot fox, right?” I throw over to her as I secure my watch to my wrist. It’s the truth. She looks beautiful make-up free and in her sweats, but I don’t complain when she gets decked out in full rock wife mode either. Not to mention her color is so much better since her nausea has backed off some and her appetite’s come back.

“Thanks, Baby,” she sweetly murmurs back before huffing out a frustrated breath and yanking the sea bands off. “I’ll keep them with me in my coat, just in case,” she adds when she looks up to catch the concerned look on my face. She tucks them into the pocket of her black, faux fur coat before slinging it around her shoulders. “You ready?”

“Yep, let’s do it.” I drape my leather jacket over one arm and take her hand, leading us to the door so that we can go meet up with the rest of the band for dinner in Ron’s suite before the show.

Mayzie

When we walk in to Ron’s suite, classic rock’s playing in the background, as Josh, Chris, their girls, Ron, and a few other people from the label stand scattered around the expansive room with floor-to-ceiling windows that give an incredible view of the city lights. We’re greeted with jovial and half-buzzed shouts of welcome as they realize we’ve entered the room. After saying short and sweet hellos to everyone, Jack leads me over to the sitting area to find the band’s bassist, who happens to be his best friend turned brother in-law. Matt’s arm is slung around Jack’s sister, Melanie’s, waist and they’re dressed up for tonight’s festivities much the same as we are. They got married earlier in the year after running the relationship gauntlet from hell, and it never fails to make me feel warm and squishy inside when I see them holding onto each other. She has her head resting on his shoulder as they take in the view, but lifts it and turns to look our way when Jack subtly announces our presence by clearing his throat.

It’s surreal to see Melanie, theau naturalboho beauty all glammed up, and I can tell she’s not used to it but she is rocking the black halter jumpsuit and dangly earrings.

“Hey,” Matt greets with a smile and slaps hands with Jack. “Josh just headed in the other room with some Johnnie. Pregame?” he suggests.

“Yeah, sounds good. I’ll see you in a few, Baby.” He kisses my cheek and heads into the other room with Matt while Melanie scoops up another drink from a nearby side table and approaches me, holding it out.

“Here, I had the bartender make you a mommy mocktail. It’s got ginger ale, a little cranberry juice, and a splash of grenadine.”

“Oh my God, you doll,” I thank her, happily taking it from her and taking a grateful sip. “Oh it’s delicious, and just what I need right now.”

“Well don’t forget that your husband used to bartend. Make sure he makes these for you at home from now on,” she smirks with a click of her tongue.

“Definitely. I hope we didn’t ruin a private romantic moment there,” I mention as I take another sip. She and Matt looked so cozy when we came in.

“It’s okay,” she waves a hand before taking a sip of her own drink. “How are you feeling?”
