“Seriously?”
I look at her over my shoulder. “Get on my back, little prey.”
She immediately complies, and after scooping up my mask, I hand it to her, carrying her down the ladder and through the barn.
When I lower her to her feet, she puts my mask on. “How do I look?”
“Like you were born to be mine.”
I tug it off her, then kiss the hell out of her. She melts against me, moaning as her hands cup my face.
When I pull back, she whispers, “I wish I could see your face in the light.”
I grin at her before putting the mask on. “Soon, little prey.” Opening the door, I gesture, and she steps outside. I follow her.
“Give me a minute, and I’ll drive you home.” Pulling my phone out, I restore power to the barn before locking my fingers around hers, leading her to my truck.
“How’d you cut the power?”
I grin behind the mask. “It’s my secret, little prey. I can do a lot of things.”
Helping her inside my truck, I buckle her in beforejumping inside and starting it. I drive to the barn doors, then throw it in park, letting it idle.
“What are you doing?”
“I’ve gotta take care of my problem.” Sliding out the door, I pull my knife out.
I hurry inside and cut Jacob down, carrying him to my truck. I open the Tonneau cover, toss his body inside, and close it.
“You’re bloody,” Mallory says as I climb inside my truck.
“Does that bother you?”
She licks her lips, shaking her head. “It should, but it doesn’t. That asshole threatened to hurt me after I punched him. My gut says he would’ve.”
I grin behind the mask. “He’ll never hurt you, my prey.”
She smiles, reaches over, and glides her finger through the blood on my chest. “Will you take the mask off, tell me your name, and fuck me all bloody?”
I grin. “Hell, yes. I’ll give you anything you want, little prey.”
CHAPTER 35
Mallory
The masked man takes me to a campground in the woods. When we pull up to an RV, my mouth drops open. “Do you live here?”
He shakes his head. “No, little prey. I’m only staying in this temporarily because of you.”
My heart pounds harder inside my chest. That’s sweet—and disturbingly obsessive.
“Where do you live?”
“I’m originally from Green Haven. But I moved to a town named Crystal Falls when I graduated from high school. I have an apartment there, but I’m looking at real estate in the area.” He levels me with a look. “Stay there.”
He exits the vehicle and approaches my side, opening the door. He unfastens my seat belt, and I get another whiff of copper as he bends over me. It shouldn’t turn me on.So why the hell does it?
His masked face lifts, and I see the twinkle in his eyes from behind the mask.
