“Yes, Dad.” I grab the bottle of water and pills from him, grinning as he rolls his eyes.
After swallowing the pills, I lean back in the recliner, getting comfortable. Jaxson throws a blanket on me.
Before I know it, my eyes close as I succumb to the exhaustion.
CHAPTER 62
Stryker
“Why the hell did you let me sleep all day yesterday?” I grumble at Zayne and Jaxson as we head to the table to look at the drawings Ryker and Devyn retrieved from Delaney’s cabin.
I’m still sore, but the headache is gone. The stitches are a pain in the ass, but after showering, I feel human again.
“You needed the rest. We’re about to get the answers we need, and things will move quickly.” Zayne’s eyes glitter with determination. “I’m ending this shit and getting closure.”
“It’s about damn time,” Jaxson mumbles, earning a glare from Zayne.
I shake my head, heading to my phone and laptop on the table. Sinking into the chair, I snatch my phone up, spotting a text from Mallory. Opening it, I drool over the picture she sent me of her Halloween costume. My dick is hard as I stare at her in the red purge mask, a little black leather dress with fishnet stockings poking from the tall black boots.
LITTLE PREY: Like my costume?
ME: I fucking love it. What the hell are you doing wearing that when I’m not around?
I wait, but she doesn’t answer.
Opening my laptop, I pull up my information on Delaney’s brother. I stare at the fucker’s photo, wishing I could knock his teeth out with my fist.
I check my phone again, but still nothing from my little prey. Then I realize what day it is. She has back-to-back classes today, so she probably won’t be able to answer for a few hours.
Satisfied, I focus on the drawings Delaney has spread out on the table.
I look up at her, noticing the distant look in her eyes. She’s remembering her past.
“Oh my God. I’ve got it.” Delaney points at the first drawing and begins explaining her theory. As she points to the second one, she grows more animated.
“Fucking brilliant,” I say to Ryker. “I don’t know who’s more intelligent—Delaney’s mom for leaving these clues or Delaney for figuring them out.”
“Call it equal intelligence. I’m impressed as hell by both women.”
I look up, meeting Delaney’s eyes. “Damn, Delaney. You fucking rock.” I hold up my hand, and she gives me a high five.
She lays out a plan that has Zayne seeing red and exploding. I raise my brows at Ryker, watching as she calms him down and gets him on board.
By the time we’re finished, I’m feeling tired again.
“Go get some rest, Stryker. You need it.”
“Yeah, I’m still wiped out.” I grimace, shaking my head. “It’s annoying.”
“Just sleep. Your woman knows you’re working. She’ll understand. And you can make it up to her when you see her.”
I grin, scooping up my laptop and computer. “Yeah, you’re right.” I nod at Jaxson and Zayne, who give me a thumbs up as they tell me to rest.
Once inside the guest room, I send Mallory another text.
ME: I hope you had a fantastic birthday and a good day of classes. I’m about to sleep so I may not respond for a while, but feel free to text me. I love you.
After setting my phone on the nightstand, I strip off my clothing except for my boxers and crawl beneath the covers.
