Silence filled the other end of the line.
“Kieran?”
Iggy. He sounded so hesitant. Was I too late?
“Baby, are you okay? Did he touch you? I’m on my way.”
“Do you mean it?” he asked.
“What?”
“You just said you loved me. Do you mean it?”
“Of course I do. All I’ve ever done was try to do right by you because I love you so damn much.”
“Oh, Kieran, I love you too.”
“You do?”
“Yes, I’ve always loved you.”
“I’m confused, Iggy. You love me, but you’re having sex with that fucker?”
Someone cleared their throat, too deep for it to be Iggy. “Is that any way to talk to me after I just knocked your heads together to admit how you feel about each other? Hmm?”
“How did he even get there? Put Iggy back on the line.”
“I told him to get dressed. He showed up on my doorstep, asking me to take his virginity because he didn’t think you were really into him and just wanted to help him enjoy his first time.”
“Where on earth would he get that idea?”
“Do you have a rearview mirror?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Look into it.”
I glanced into the rearview mirror. “Quit fucking around, Milo. There’s no one…”
I looked again. Someonewasstaring back at me. Me. Shit. How could I have fucked this up so badly?
“I didn’t touch him mostly because I intend to keep all my teeth,”Milo said. “But I admit I was tempted. Still am. If you aren’t here in half an hour, don’t blame me for what might happen.”
The son of a bitch hung up with a laugh. I gunned the engine and made it to his apartment building in ten minutes. When the door buzzed open, I raced to his apartment. Milo was nowhere in sight, but a timid-looking Iggy, chewing on his nails, stood in the doorway.
“I’m sorry. I messed up everything. Will you forgive me?”
“Oh, baby.” I held out my arms, and Iggy ran into them. I swept him off his feet in a big kiss. “There’s nothing to forgive. I should have said something earlier. If our parents weren’t married, I would have much sooner, but I do love you.”
“I love you too.”
I placed my forehead on his, and we smiled. Damn, it felt good to admit it. “Where’s Milo?”
“He left. Said he didn’t want to be here when you arrived. Something about your temper when it comes to me.”
“What temper? All I wanted to do was tell him to keep his hands off what’s mine.” I pecked his lips. “And to thank him.”
