“I’m fine taking a cab, but it’s sweet of you to offer.”
He disagrees vehemently. I finally agree to him calling his driver to take me home. “Thank you, angel. I’ll feel much better knowing you’ve gotten home safely. I hate the idea of you being alone in a car with some stranger.”
I laugh. “Andre, I’ve lived in the city for years. I’ve been riding in cabs alone for a long time…”
He cuts me off with a fierce kiss. “That might be the case, but I don’t have to like it. Now that you’re mine, it’s my job to take care of you. I rarely ever use my driver, it’s about time he earns his hefty paycheck.”
I roll my eyes and giggle. “If it will make you happy.”
“Very happy,” he says just before his lips descend on mine in a hungry kiss.
“If you’re going to kiss me like that every time you’re happy…” I say breathlessly when he finally pulls away.
He gives me a sexy smirk. “If getting a kiss is all it takes to get you to give me what I want, consider it a promise.”
My core clenches and my heart skips a beat at his growled promise.Ohh, boy.I could totally get used to this. While we wait for his car, he tells me to call him when my plane lands and to respond to his texts so that he knows I’m okay. Normally, I would scoff at someone trying to give me rules beyond a scene, but I find myself happily agreeing.
I’m on cloud nine for the whole ride to my apartment.

Candace has been gonefor three days, and I hate it. Just like I asked, she texted me the minute her plane touched down, letting me know she landed. Then called me as soon as she checked into her hotel room. She sounded exhausted, and I felt like a shitty daddy keeping her up so late, knowing she had an early morning and a day of travel. She laughed when I apologized and said that she would deal with a little tiredness for a night like ours.
We’ve texted every day and talked on the phone every evening once she’s back in her hotel room for the night. Every day that passes, she seems to become more and more distant. The sweet, compliant girl that left my apartment Wednesday morning is slowly disappearing. She’s not even her usual bratty self either… this Candace is sad and withdrawn. Her sass and fiery attitude are entirely missing.
Now it’s Saturday. She’s supposed to call me early because she’s got some fancy business party to attend with her boss tonight. I’ve checked my phone half a dozen times like a silly high schooler anticipating a call from a crush. I breathe a sigh of relief when my phone rings.
“Hello, angel.”
“Hi.”
“How are you? Did you sleep well?”
Candace sighs. “I’m fine.”
It takes a lot of self-control and patience to not call her on her bullshit response. We all know what it means when someone says they are ‘fine.’ Fine is what someone says when they are horrible but don’t want to talk about it.
“I wish you would tell me what’s bothering you, babygirl.”
Candace sniffles and every molecule in my body screams to pull her into my arms, and Hulk smash anything that’s upset my girl. I feel completely helpless knowing she’s so far away. She’s refused to do video calls claiming she hates them, but I need to see her. I click the video option on my phone and wait for her to either protest or accept. Much to my surprise, she accepts. For the first time since Wednesday morning, I’m seeing my girl. Except today she’s got dark circles under her tearful eyes. Her face is slightly pink, telling me she’s been crying for a while.
“Baby girl, tell me what’s wrong.”
More tears fall from her eyes, each one a dagger to my heart. “I miss you,” she whispers.
“I miss you too. Please tell me why you’re crying. I can’t help if you don’t talk to me.” I’m not used to begging, but I’ll do just about anything to get her to open up to me right now.
“I’m just being silly.” She sniffles and wipes her face with a tissue.
“Nothing you feel is silly. Even if it is silly, if it makes you cry, I want to know what it is so I can make you feel better.”
She smiles at that. “I wish it were as easy as you waving your magic dom wand to fix all my problems.”
“How do you know it isn’t that easy?”
“Unless you can make me like my job and turn my boss into the toad he is, I don’t think your wand will work.”
