“Yes. Yes, Preston, I will marry you!”
He sweeps me up in his arms and twirls me around in the flowers, Duke running between our legs.
He places me back down on the ground and slides the most beautiful diamond and emerald ring on my finger. “This was my mom’s ring.”
“Preston, it is so beautiful, I don’t know what to say.” With that he pulls me into him, and kisses me, conveying all the love, and emotion of the last two days.
Everyone else comes running over to us and envelops us in a family hug. In this moment, I can feel my Dad here in this field with us. I can feel his love radiating through all of these people who I’ve been so lucky to get back.
Chapter Thirty-Three
Preston
Todayisthebestday. Our new deck is done. Scarlett finally moved in. Colton got the approval to subdivide my land and he’ll be building not too far from my house.
Everything is perfect.
“Hey, can you grab the s’mores platter, babe?” Scarlett yells through the open French doors.
“Sure thing!” I grab the platter Scarlett put together and head out to the fire pit. Addy, Lacey, and Oliver are here to celebrate with us. Oliver made the request for s’mores and we are happy to oblige him. He deserves it after going through what he is with the divorce, and his own dad choosing to not have anything to do with him.
Walking up to the table I put the s’mores platter in front of Oliver and his eyes light up. Colton takes him into the woods to find a good marshmallow stick for roasting.
I’m still watching and waiting to see what happens there with Colton and Lacey. None of us can miss the looks those two give off to each other. Or how Colton always seems to be watching her.
I gather more logs from the pile to add to the fire. Scarlett, Lacey, and Addy are sitting on the chairs Colton built drinking a glass of wine. They look like they’re in a serious conversation, so I set off to find Colton and Oliver.
“Oh, what about this one, Colton?” Oliver says excitedly.
“That looks like the perfect stick, kiddo.” I say, startling both of them.
“You scared us!” Colton says, even though I’m pretty sure he’s only saying it to make Oliver feel better.
Colton is so good with Oliver. He’ll make a great dad someday, but I’ve never been more thankful Elizabeth refused to have children. I can’t imagine dealing with her and having a child in the mix. It seems messy enough with Lacey, and her husband wants nothing to do with custody. Luckily that should be behind both of them soon.
“What do you say we head back and perfect our marshmallow roasting?” Colton says to Oliver.
“Yes, I’ll race you there!” Colton pretends to race him but slows down when Oliver is out of the woods.
“I think I’m too old to keep up with that kid. He has so much energy. I don’t know how Lacey does it all the time.”
“I think you do just fine. Should we go throw dinner on the grill?” I ask him.
We walk back over to the fire pit, where the new outdoor kitchen is, and start cooking dinner. Colton helps Oliver roast another marshmallow since his first marshmallow caught on fire.
Scarlett comes up behind me and slides her hands up my abs. “This is so perfect, isn’t it?”
I grab her hand and pull her around to face me. Placing a kiss on her forehead, I respond, “Everything is perfect. Including you.”

Iamsittinginour bedroom, looking out at the wildflower field. Our wedding is starting soon. It’s almost time for me to walk down the aisle to my husband. I am so filled with joy to see our friends and family, with Preston at the arch, waiting for me. Colton built the arch for us, and Mom and my sisters decorated it with all the beautiful flowers from the field.
We have spent so long planning our wedding for everything to be just perfect. We didn’t have to even think about where to get married. The wildflower field always seemed like the obvious choice.
“It's almost time, Sweet Scarlett.” My mom comes up from behind me, jarring me from my thoughts. Mom loops her arm through mine and kisses me on the cheek.
