I let my Katie girl get to me. She fucked up my heart. Fucked up my head.

Fucked up my life.

I turn and swing my right foot, kicking my Katie girl’s fiancé in the face, sending him rolling to his right, going limp.

I walk through the house and out casually.

If I take off right now… I can get away.

I can disappear.

I can leave all this behind me once and for all.

But that would mean no more of my Katie girl.

I can’t allow that.

I’m too addicted to her to just let go.

Chapter 43

Kate

I’ve changedinto a bathrobe and I have a bag packed and on the floor right next to the door. I hold my phone tight with my right hand as ajust in casemeasure.

I pace back and forth, from a wall, turning, to the closet, turning…

Waiting.

All I can do is wait.

It’s all coming to a… a head? Is that the term?

There’s a knock at the door and I freeze and swallow hard.

Even right then, there’s a small, logical voice in my head that tells me I can run right now. I can go to the balcony, climb over it, dangle down, drop to the ground. Even if I break an ankle, at least…

I open the hotel room door and there’s Corbin.

He’s a mess of dried sweat and blood. He’s big, pissed off, and if I have to admit it, he looks sort of terrifying. Or maybe it’s just pure determination. Or just raw anger.

I don’t know…

His right hand shoots out and wraps around my throat.

He steps into the hotel room, driving me back with force.

The door shuts behind him and he slams me against the wall, hand pressing harder at my throat.

I manage to whimper a groan as I feel my air supply decline a little.

My lips quiver.

My heart races.

Those butterflies are back in my stomach too.

“You still listen to me,” Corbin says. He touches the middle of the robe and his fingers are then right between my legs. “And you’re still soaking wet.”
