I siton the opposite side of a dirty table in a dirty room with no windows.

I’m chained at the ankles and handcuffed to the table.

It’s always an ironic kind of feeling when they do this to me. Makes me think right back to my Katie girl. I loved tying her up.

There’s a loud buzzer and the door opens.

“This is absurd,” my expensive lawyer calls out. “Treating him like this? What the hell did he do wrong? Defending himself? Get those fucking chains off him right now!”

Mike is a mean looking bastard who loves to defend the bad guys like me.

His hourly billing rate is outrageous but he’s worth it.

The chains and handcuffs are taken off my hands and wrists and I’m as free as I’ve felt in a little bit.

“Come on, Corbin,” Mike says as he touches my shoulder. “Let’s go sit somewhere like fucking humans.”

Mike has some serious power and sway with these kinds of things.

Amazing what dirty heroin money can buy, right?

Speaking of that, in this entire mess, nobody knows a thing about the heroin.

The only issue I have is that all the power is back with Axel. I just hope he’s smarter now. Same for Mutt too. Hopefully getting set up by some whore and by Axel and almost dying smartens him up.

Mike and I end up in a decent looking office. With a couple windows.

I find myself walking right to one of the windows, looking out.

“What do you need?” Mike asks. “Soda? Beer? Pizza? Some pussy…?”

I look back at him.

He shows his hands. “Hey, no judgement here. This is why you pay me. I’m here to help and take care of you.”

“Talk to me about the case.”

“Of course,” Mike says. “The judge on the case isn’t all that bad. Not really the type to instantly look at the past record, which is good. You were in prison for ten years and then barely out…”

“Can you go to jail for life over an affair?” I ask.

“Well, that’s the angle we’re pushing for,” Mike says. “It helped us a lot that your…”

“She’s mine,” I say to Mike. “Always will be.”

“Right,” Mike says. “Well, Kate’s willingness to speak has helped a lot. There’s no sympathy on your end, but on her end, there is. Fucking women, huh? So emotional and knowing how to use it.”

I flex my jaw.

I did not ask nor did I command my Katie girl to do what she did.

She’s the one who tracked down who my lawyer was and showed up to tell her side of the story. She wanted it to be known that what happened was an affair that exploded. That she and I had a long history together and when I was released from prison we started having an affair…

“We just have to keep the story at that,” Mike says. “You had an affair. Big fucking deal. Everyone has an affair. Right? I mean, what are we doing here? To me, they’re picking on you, Corbin. You did your time. So why is this happening like this?” Mike clears his throat. “You entered the house, playing a game with Kate. Now it’ll be a tough sell there. Would help if Kate would take the stand.”

“Never,” I say. “She will never be part of this more than she is. No matter what.”

“Okay, fair enough. So… you got caught. Kate’s fiancé shows up and catches you in the house and all hell breaks loose. Let’s be clear here, Corbin, you didn’t break into the house. You were invited in by someone living there!”
