He was only joking when he said that.

For me, I would have definitely done it.

Sunday.

Chad isat a pickleball tournament with some friends.

I’m home alone.

I’m bored out of my mind.

Then there’s a knock at the door.

I ask the cliché thing in my head—I wonder who that could be.

I open the door to find my ex standing there.

He’s been in prison for the last ten years.

Chapter 2

Corbin

There’sthree-hundred-fifteen-million-five-hundred-seventy-six-thousandseconds in ten years. And all it takes is one second looking into my Katie girl’s eyes to wash away everything prison left stained on my soul.

She stands with the door halfway open, her jaw completely dropped.

Last time we saw each other, we were both face down on the pavement, almost in the middle of the road.

Handcuffs on her skinny wrists, tears in her eyes, asking,“How could you do this to me?”

And all I did was make a promise right back to her before the state police picked me up off the ground and threw me into the back of a cruiser.

‘I’ll come get you when I get out… this isn’t the end of it, darling.’

You can hate me. You can call me a criminal.

And, yes, I will do some of the worst things possible in the world.

But one thing I won’t do… ever…

I won’t break a promise to the woman I love.

“Corbin,”she whispers.

I’ve waited all those miserable seconds for all those years to hear her say my name again.

Now as a man who just spent a fucking decade in prison, the sound of a woman’s voice is angelic. And when I say the wordangelicit has everything to do with my throbbing dick.

I’m fucking horny. I’m beyond fucking horny.

For fuck’s sake, I tried to get myself a coffee earlier and the woman in front of me… just the smell of her hair—freshly washed—made me want to grab her and carry her into the bathroom, bend her over the sink and run my tongue between her ass cheeks, then slobber all over her cunt…

Something catches my eyes.

Big. Shiny.

I nod.
