“Oh! Oh! That doesn’t sound good.” I could hear the smile in her voice. “Has he done something else?”

I exhaled loudly. “Let’s just say he has a lot of growing up to do.”

“Well, I hope you can make it.” I could hear muted talking in the background, and a dog barking. “I just texted you the address.”

“Thanks. I’ll see what I can do.”

We hung up, and I set my coffee cup down on top of the dresser and went to my closet. I hadn’t unpacked everything because I hadn’t planned to stay with Ron all that long. I stood there and looked at the boxes until I found the one I wanted. I only had one swimsuit, a black one-piece that laced up the front. It was modest but sexy at the same time. I pulled the box out and began rummaging through it when I heard a loud knock at the front door.

I went out to answer it. At the last minute I checked through the window and was glad that I had when I saw Lawrence standing outside. What the hell did he want? There was no way I was going to open my door to him. I ducked out of sight, my eyes nearly bugging out of my head when I heard the doorknob turn, and then rattle. Shit! I caught my breath and covered my pounding heart when I realized he was trying to get in. Thank God Ron had locked the door when he’d left.

“I know you’re in there!”

Of course he did, my car was parked in the driveway.

“I just want to talk!”

We had nothing to talk about other than for me to warn him to stay away from Ron. I ignored him, hoping that he would just give up and go away. After another minute of pounding on the door and mumbling something unintelligible, he did. I heard him swear as he walked away, and I relaxed against the door. I got my phone and sent Ron a text, not surprised to find that I was trembling.
