“I don’t know, Brother, they like to move around a lot. They’re paranoid about the law and their enemies discovering where their hideouts are.”

“Would they take the girls to their clubhouse?”

Brew’s gaze darted to Wolfe. “Anything is possible, Prez. But that’s in New York.”

“What’s your gut tell you?” I asked.

“That they have a place here in Maine, somewhere closer they can get to fast.”

“Fuck!” Bear exclaimed angrily.

The man looked like he was about to lose it, and I couldn’t blame him. My gut twisted in knots thinking about our women being in the hands of the Maniacs. The were known for mistreating their own women, and I could only hope that we found ours before any damage was done.

Lynx made a sound of frustration. “Why the fuck we wasting time?”

Wolfe grunted, “I agree! Let’s ride!”

I spoke up, “Wait a minute, Prez.”

He came to a jerky stop, and the look in his eyes revealed that he was at the end of his patience.

“Think I know of a way to find out where they are. Leo’s brother.” Wolf wasn’t the only one who groaned at my suggestion, and I was sure that there were a few eyes rolling.

“Works with someone involved in dog fighting, and we know the Maniacs are into that shit, too. I believe this someone was the one who took the dogs from Lola’s place.”

“And you’re just telling me this now?”

“I just found out this morning and was going to get with you later this evening after I talked to Ron and knew more about what’s going on. If my hunch is right, there might be a connection.”

“You think this person is working for the Maniacs?” Tank muttered around the cigarette in his mouth.

I shrugged, digging out my phone. “He’s working for someone, and he had to get rid of those dogs.”

“Who you texting?”

I kept my eyes downcast as I shot a message off to Ron, making sure he knew that it wasn’t a request but a demand. “Ron. Told him we’re coming by and to meet us out front.” Once I sent the text, I looked up at Wolfe. “We need to get to the shipyard.”

Wolfe let out a heavy huff that said it all. He was angry, frustrated, and impatient to be off. “You and Brew head there, the rest of us are going to head out in the direction the van went.” He didn’t wait for confirmation but revved his bike and skidded out of the drive, spitting dirt and gravel in his wake.

They went one way; Brew and I went the other. Fifteen minutes later, we were on Washington Street and nearing Bath Iron Works. From a distance I could see that Ron was waiting for us outside on the sidewalk. He looked nervous as hell as we pulled up next to him.

I didn’t waste any time. “I know you’re involved with Lawrence Wilson.”

The color drained out of his face.

“You were supposed to be with him when he took the dogs?”

He glanced downward.

“Don’t waste my fucking time!”

My tone frightened him enough to raise his eyes back up to mine. “Yeah. But I—”

“Who does he work for?” I watched his Adam apple bob as he swallowed hesitantly. “We don’t have any time to lose, asshole. Our women were taken from Wolfe’s, and your sister was among them.”

“What!?” His eyes grew big at the news. “What do you mean—”

“Goddamnit, Ron, answer my fucking question!”
