“Jesus Christ, woman,” King rasped after a while.“Those filthy words coming out of your sweet mouth...You don’t play fair.I thought my damned head was going to explode when you said that.”
Laughter escaped Mia.She was a little surprised at herself for saying something so wicked.“Your head did explode,” she joked.It took a second before King laughed along with her.
“Damn, darlin’.”He ran his hands through the hair above her ears, rasping hotly against her lips.“We have some seriously hot chemistry between us, baby.I can’t wait to get you naked and beneath me so I can fuck you proper.”
That sounded like heaven to Mia, but she hoped that sex wasn’t all King wanted from her.She hadn’t returned home to Coldwater with the thought of finding a replacement for Jerry.Getting involved with another man had been the furthest thing from her mind.In fact, she’d sworn off men for a while.She had new priorities, and men were way down the list.Of course, running into Coldwater’s sexy bachelor and a man she’d secretly coveted for most of her life hadn’t been on her radar either.
She was a little confused by how fast she’d jumped into bed with King.
King pushed Mia away gently so their eyes could meet.“You got awful quiet, baby.”
She shrugged, taking a deep breath.“I’m not going to lie; the sex is out of this world good.But don’t you think we’re moving too fast?”
“Don’t you think it’s a little too late to be worried about that?”He studied her for a moment before snorting, “So what if we are?It’s not like we’re getting married tomorrow.We’re two mature adults who’ve experienced enough life to know what we want, and we took it.It’s not a crime to start a relationship off with sex.At least we know we’re compatible in bed.”
She couldn’t argue with him about that.“So, we’re in a relationship now?”Why did the possibility of that scare Mia?“I thought we were just having sex.”
“Baby,” King laughed, “we’ve exchanged enough looks over the years to know we’re attracted to each other.Don’t even try to convince me that you haven’t thought about me or wondered how it would be with me before now, because I sure as shit had you on my mind.Now is our time.You’re frightened, I get that.But I want you, and I’m not of a mind to give you up.I intend to keep on fucking you while we get to know each other, no matter how long that takes.”The hard stare he pinned on Mia revealed that he wasn’t giving her a choice.“Got it?”

“Mia?”He was still waiting for her to acknowledge his last comment.“You understand what I’m saying?”
He was relieved to see the slow smile spread across her pretty face.He didn’t want to lose this woman before they had a chance to see where things might go.
“Got it, King.”She began to straighten her clothes.“So what now?”
He reached between them and did up his pants.“We go back to the cookout.I want you to meet my daughter, Scarlett.”
Mia’s head snapped up, and the eyes she pinned on King flared with panic.“No, no, no!Not today, King, please.I don’t think that’s a good idea with your ex around.”
He studied her for a minute, running his hand over his lower jaw.Maybe Mia was right—today wasn’t a good day, especially since Sheila was hanging around.But it would also give him the opportunity to set his ex straight on a few things and warn Scarlett that there was another woman in his life.
“Okay, darlin,’ I’m not gonna push you into anything you’re not comfortable with.”Her expression relaxed, and he sighed heavily.“We’ll finish the day out and talk later tonight, okay?And plan on spending tomorrow with me.”
