My heart jack hammers in my chest as Sloane starts to ring me.

I shake my head from side to side and cut him off before opening his contact details and blocking him.

“Fuck you, Sloane. Fuck you.”

CHAPTER TWO

I didn’t sleeplast night.

The thought that Sloane, who had consumed me whole for the last six years, had been unfaithful made me sick to my stomach.

I’m currently crashed out on Taylor’s sofa, because of course the apartment we lived in was his. Well, it was his dad’s, but his dad lives in LA.

He and his mum have some strange arrangement. Married but don’t sleep together.

Never got it myself.

But it worked for them.

My parents? Never knew my dad. Mum was present, but she was more consumed with her love life then being mum of the year.

There have been a few that have stuck, but only one I can really say was good for her and that was George.

But like every one of mum’s partners, he left. They always did. George married my mum, the only one who managed to get her to settle down. But in the end he wanted more, mum didn’t, so he moved away to take a new fancy job. Never did see him again.

Sighing, I twist in my seat and look around me.

I would love to own my own place.

Sloane had money, his family had money; me, I had nothing. Sloane had an older brother, Sebastian. I only met him a few times, he was ten years older than Sloane, twelve years older than me, but he was a hotshot doctor. They were all real proud of him. So yeah, his family had money.

I work hard, get paid pittance. I love my job though, working in a coffee shop, a floristanda book shop?!

The dream.

That’s how I met the girls.

Sinful Reads book club.

My chest weighs heavy and suddenly I find myself gasping for breath. Sitting upright, I reach for my water off the coffee table and drink a large mouthful.

Heart is racing. Palms are sweaty.

Placing it back down on the coaster, the sound of a door opening has me turning my head. Taylor emerges, wild hair, hazy eyes, huge smile with one of her twin boyfriends, clinging onto her like she is his lifeline. I still couldn’t tell them apart.

I rub the ache from my chest.

“Hey babe,” her high and playful tone dances its way over to me.

“Oh, hey, morning,” I stand quickly and awkwardly, tucking my auburn hair behind my ear and dropping my eyes to the floor.

“Morning,” one of the twins greets me as the other appears at the door flustered and a boyish grin spread across his face.

“Thanks for letting me stay last night, just after everything…” I trail off when I hear footsteps closing in.

Taylor’s hand is on my arm, head tilted to the side as she gives me a sad look.

“You can stay for as long as you want, I’ll be crashing at the guys’ place tonight anyway so the place is yours.”
