She began to move faster, taking him slow at first and then faster until she was slamming down on him with urgency.
Leaning forward, she kissed him, the deep passes of her tongue urging louder growls from him. He tangled his fingers inher hair, trapping her to his mouth, making demands of her, and she gave herself up to him.
In a quick move that yanked a cry of surprise from her, he flipped her underneath him and speared her on his cock. The hard plunge sent tendrils of heat through her.
She locked her thighs around his hips and rode him, meeting him thrust for thrust.
The music of their combined moans filled the room. She took him to the root, and then withdrew in a hasty swing of her hips.
“I love feeling your walls gripping me,” he growled.
The flames blazing in her core shot higher. “Zach! I’m com—”
He slammed his mouth over hers, stealing her cries and feeding her his own as he jerked his hips and came with her.
Long ripples of pleasure pounded through her veins. All the stress of the past few weeks, the fear and grief, faded for those few seconds she was in Zach’s arms.
Breaking the kiss, he dropped his head to her shoulder, gripping her hard. His long fingers curled into her skin as if he never wanted to let her go.
The thought brought her brain crashing back to earth. She didn’t know where any of this was going with Zach. He worked for her. He also protected her from people like Feldman as well as the unseen threat that had taken her father from her.
He was also great with her daughter—patient and kind, giving her the attention that she deserved. Her own talks with him had become something she looked forward to nightly, and not just because she was getting adult conversation. She liked the way Zach’s mind worked.
She liked the way his body worked in perfect tandem with hers too.
But was he boyfriend material? A man with a past…an ex-con?
Nestling closer to him, she teased her fingers over his spine, exploring the warm, hard steel of his muscle riding under his tanned skin. She closed her eyes and reveled in the feel of being in bed with him.
There would be time later to figure things out, to put labels on their secret, scorching-hot trysts.
Zach’s deep voice broke into her musings. “Okay, darlin’?”
She pressed a kiss to his jaw and nodded. “Better than okay.”
“Mm. I like the sound of that.”
“You mean your ego does.”
He lifted his head, eyes burning with a smile that didn’t extend to his lips. “That too.” He slowly extricated himself from her and went into the bathroom.
Pleasant shocks zapped through her pussy as she lay curled on her side. Her eyes slipped shut. How nice was it to let go with him?
When she felt the mattress sink, she opened her eyes to see the glory of her hardworking lover climbing back into her bed.
He stretched out and pulled her up against him. She draped one thigh over his and let her fingers drift over the crisp hair on his chest.
She traced the ridges of his muscles, their bodies still humming with the afterglow of their connection. He rested a hand on her back, strumming up and down, up and down, a soothing rhythm in the silence.
After another heartbeat, he broke the quiet. “You know, Opal, I think we have a problem with the paddock.”
He was always thinking ahead. Taking care of things, which in turn took care of her.
Shifting, she propped her chin on his shoulder to meet his gaze. “What is it?”
“The fencing is in worse shape than we thought. I replaced what I could today, but the uprights aren’t the only problem. The whole thing could use replacing.”
“Damn. Dad had been saying that for a year or two. I thought we could get by with a few new posts.”
