I’m not sure what exactly getting rid of him means yet, but we’re either going to have to scare him so badly he’ll never fuck with us again or find a way to make him disappear for good.
We’ll have to bring the plan forward. Take Violet once James is dealt with.
I’m not prepared to let her spend another second away from us.
She needs one of us with her at all times to make sure she’s safe and we can’t do that from afar any longer.
The plan was to spend the summer break haunting her on an empty campus, but I’m sure some constant two-on-one attention will do her a world of good and get her on our agenda quicker.
“Keep an eye on him, I’ll get what we need from the car.”
"You sure you don't want me to go?"
"'I'll be fine," I grit out. It'll hurt because it always fucking hurts. I don't need him reminding me of that.
When I make it to the car, it's no surprise that my leg feels like it's being stabbed all over. Sometimes I can ignore it, but I've been pushing myself a lot lately, not resting half as much as I should.
I keep telling myself that it'll be worth it in the end.
Giving myself a minute, I lean against the trunk. More pain radiates out of my hip and shoots down my leg. I grab hold of it and squeeze my fingers in hard enough to bruise. Focusing on that new bite of pain beneath my fingertip’s is what helps to center myself, to forget about the rest of the pain while I give it time to pass. After a few deep breaths, I’m able to stand straight again with only a small amount of discomfort.
I pop open the trunk and unzip the duffel bag inside, checking it’s got everything we need in it, then pull it over my shoulder and head back to Mad.
I’m surprised to see him still standing there watching James. I fully expected him to take matters into his own hands as soon as I left. If he did, I wouldn’t have blamed him. We’re both acting irrationally thanks to a certain someone that seems to be oblivious to her effect on us.
“Ready?” I ask Mad, stepping up to him and handing him his mask. Taking it from me, he nods and we pull the masks over our heads before pulling out the bats from the bag and making our way over to James.
“Waiting for someone?” Mad asks and James jumps back.
“Jesus Christ! You assholes scared the shit out of me!”
We remain silent as we stand in front of him just watching him.
He gets visiblyuneasy, the longer we stare at him. I'm sure he'd be scowling if his face wasn't so swollen from the beating Mad gave him before. “You’re too early for hazing. Go try and scare someone else,” he scoffs, then he leans back against the building and goes back to watching Violet's window like he has every right to do so.
“Why do you want her so much?” Mad speaks first.
“Want who?” His phone buzzes in his pocket, but he ignores it.
“Don’t play stupid.”
James pushes off the wall and uncrosses his arms. “It’s you two isn’t it? Max and Maddox? Thought I recognised that limp. You know if you had just let me take her home that night, you’d still be on track to stardom. What are your sorry asses doing here anyway?”
Mad steps forward, ready to grab him and probably kill him right here, but I press my bat to his chest, holding him off for now.
“We told you to keep away from her,” I say calmly. James' phone buzzes again and again. I can see the way Mad's shoulders bunch each time it goes off. It's pissing me off just as much.
“She’s lonely and desperate, why would I keep away from that? Anyway, why do you care? I know you’ve not seen your sister since she came here. Good job she’s had my shoulder to cry on. Don’t worry, I know exactly how to soothe her. All it takes is a few nice words and she’s on her knees for me.”
“You motherfucker!” Mad snarls and I loosen my hold on the bat as he charges forwards, shoving James back into the wall making his head bounce off the brickwork. “She’s ours! You deserve to have your dick chopped off for even talking about her like that, let alone touching her!”
“Not here. Let's get him out of here first, then you can chop off whatever you like."
“No you fucking won’t!” James swings at Mad, but he dodges to the side and punches him square in the face, knocking him back. As James clutches his already bruised and swollen face, Mad grabs his arms, bringing them around his back to pin him against the wall.
“Say one more word about Violet and I’ll make sure this entire campus knows how much of a sick little pervert you are creeping outside the girls dorms like this. That’s if I don’t just kill you first.”
As Mad threatens him, I pull a syringe and some rope from the bag.
