Then he drops to one knee and Max follows suit. If my eyes could get any wider they’d be rolling under the Christmas tree.
Dropping the book, I shoot to my feet and Max smiles up at me. Maddox, on the other hand, looks about ready to pass out.
He tries to hand the box over to Max. “You should probably do this part, you’re better at the speech crap.”
Max grabs Maddox’s wrist and says, “We’re both doing it.” Then he looks up at me and my heart stops.
“Violet, we've always wanted you, but the moment I thought I lost you was the moment I knew I loved you. You're our forever and we want to show the world that. We’ve always wanted to be able to show you off. We thought we were whole, but when you came along you slotted right in between us and we’re never losing that piece of us again. Legally, you can only marry one of us, but this is to show you that we’re both yours. Always.”
Max opens the box, showing off two engagement rings inside. I choke on a sob as they take one each.
Maddox stares helplessly up at me then Max jabs him in the side, making him hold his ring up.
He clears his throat before saying, “Vi, baby. When we lost you before, it felt like something was missing. We thought we’d never get what we had back. After all the stupid shit I’ve done to push you away and make you think I didn’t love you, I still get to have you. For that, I’ll always be so fucking grateful. So Vi—”
“Yes!” I scream before he can finish and I drop to my knees wrapping my arms around both of them. “Yes, a billion times yes. I love you both so damn much it hurts and Maddox there’s nothing to forgive. I know why you did all those things. We’re past all that now.”
They each take it in turns to put the rings on my finger. One each.
Both are identical gold bands but engraved individually with their names on the outside. Every time I look down, I’ll know I’m theirs and the whole world will know it too.
“We have the future to think about now.” I take their hands and put them on my stomach.
“Sweetheart, are you—”
“I thought you didn’t want to get pregnant?” Maddox blurts out.
“I didn’t get my last shot,” I say, nervously biting my lip.
“Vi, that was…” Max pauses as he figures out when my last appointment was supposed to be.
“Six weeks ago,” I say, unable to hide the smile on my face.
“So you might be?Right now?”Maddox asks quickly.
“Maybe. I’ve not done a test and my period still hasn’t come back since coming off it. But I think there’s a good chance.”
They both stand up at the same time and Max picks me up, hoisting me over his shoulder. “Put me down! I’m too heavy for you.”
He snorts and slaps my ass. “You didn’t say that when you were riding my face the other night.”
“That’s different! I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Violet, sweetheart, you could never hurt me.”
“Where are we going?” I look up and Maddox is smiling at me, but there’s a new hunger in his eyes. One that makes my stomach swoop.
“To get you a pregnancy test,” he says and his husky tone makes my insides turn into lava.
“The stores are all closed. It’s Christmas Day, remember.” Max’s voice rumbles through my body and if someone doesn’t touch me soon I’m going to explode.
“Crap,” Maddox says, coming to a halt, but Max keeps walking and takes me to the bedroom, where he tosses me onto the bed.
“As soon as the stores open we’re getting one. In the meantime…” Max trails off as his eyes drag down my body. I’m only wearing a simple outfit of a red plaid skirt and a green cardigan, over a novelty Christmas t-shirt, but I might as well be gift-wrapped in just a bow from the way he’s looking at me.
I see Maddox come up behind him, already pulling his shirt off and I raise a brow at him.
“In the meantime,” Maddox says, “we need to figure out which one of us you’re going to marry.”
