Son of a bitch. He thinks he can wait me out.

Breath heaving, I glare at him. He just looks back, an almost placid look on his face. At least he’s not smiling that fucking perfect white smile of his. I’d have to break it.

“Go. Away.”

He has the nerve to lean against the shed and cross his ankles.

Asshole.

He’s not going to drop this until he’s spouted some bullshit.

A minute later between my swings, he finally speaks. “She’s walking this way. T-minus four minutes.”

“Fucking motherfuck. Goddamnit. I’m not ready to talk to her.” I slam the hammer down again, making the tire jump two feet off the ground.

Sweat is pouring off of me, filling my eyes, making it hard to see. But I don’t need to see to feel the impending storm bearing down on me. A Cat-5 Hurricane.

“You gonna tell her now?”

I swipe my arm over my brow, smearing face paint and sweat everywhere. “I. Don’t. Know.”

“I know what you’re thinking. You need proof.”

I meet his gaze. “I do.”

“How you going to get it?”

“Figuring that out.” I swing and slam again.

Fire burning up my lungs, I raise the sledge with a snarl. When I unleash again, the muscles in my abs shake with the force of my strike.

“You’re not seriously pissed that skinny fucker was her boyfriend are you?”

I don’t know what’s bleeding in my mouth, but the taste of copper coats my throat. “I’m sure as hell not happy about it.”

He snorts. “Quit acting like a barbarian.”

“Fuck you.” I spit on the ground. “Fuckyou, pretty boy.”

He chuckles. “You’re good and mad, aren’t you?”

“Damn right, I’m fucking mad. I’m the one that has to break her fucking heart by telling her.”

I sling the hammer on the ground, aim my anger at him, and stalk his way.

“And when I fucking shatter her, I’m not going to be man enough to put her back together again.”

He tilts his head and doesn’t bother pushing off from the place he’s leaning against the shed. No. He’s calm.

Always goddamned calm, that’s Justice.

“With this wind direction, she’s going to be in earshot in another minute. You need to vent this shit, so you can be the man I know you are when she gets here.”

“That man is dead. When I heard the shit that kid was spewing, I fucking checked out. I’m going to kill the son of a bitch that’s behind destroying her life, then I’m going to leave her the fuck alone.”

I pick up the sledge hammer again, raising it over my head in a violent arc. “She doesn’t need a piece of shit like me ruining her life.”

“Oh. Oh. Oh. Man, you’re talking all kinds of bullshit to yourself right now.”
