I grimace. Griff sees through lies like they're made of Saran Wrap.

I need to get off this phone.

Trying to sound cheery, I say, “Get some rest, brother. I’m fine. I’m safe. I’m going to try to get some sleep so I can start planning the dives as soon as I can meet with the rest of the Agile Security team.”

I can hear his extreme unhappiness through the line without him saying a word.

Then he lets loose. “Fuck, I can’t believe this is happening.”

Well, neither can I, but I don’t say that aloud. “Just rest. You’ll get well more quickly.”

“I guess.” He snorts and mutters, “Remember what I said about Scout. I’m really angry right now that you’re with him. He’s the last person I want you to be around.”

I feel compelled to point out one very important fact. “Griff, he saved my life.”

“He’s a fucking SEAL, that’s what they’re trained to do. He does that shit in his sleep.”

Oookay. This is a pointless conversation. “Griff, please, take a breath. I’m fine. Nothing is going to happen to me.”

“You need to watch your back around him. I’m serious, A, he’s a liability. I won’t take any chances with you. The way that fucker was looking at you made my blood boil.”

God. Griff is over the top. And he doesn’t even know about what happened with Adam. If he did he’d really lose his mind.

Chapter Thirteen

A peel of thunder wakes me, launching me from sleep to high alert in a fraction of a second.

I’m on my feet by the time I register that it is already daylight, I’m in a strange place, and two people are staring at me.

Dammit.Not just two people.

My boss and his woman.

Gruff as a pissed off dog, I scowl at them. “You two should know better than to sneak up on someone like me.”

I drop my hands from a fighting stance to hang by my sides.

They both look past me with such looks of shock, I whirl around, expecting to find a mountain lion about to attack me.

But that would have been easy.

Instead, I find Aria on the floor wearing one of myfavorite T-shirts, with sleep tangled hair and a blanket pooling around her lap.

Sitting where I just leapt off the ground from.

Holy fuck.

God.

Damn.

What have I done?

A flash of hot, then cold rushes over my skin. The scars on my legs tighten as the hair raises all over my body.

I point in the general direction of the front door of the small ass airport terminal.“Get. Out!”

Aria startles and scrambles to her knees, causing the blanket to drop away from her hips. Her bare thighs make an appearance causing my heart to leap out of my chest.
