“Where’s the fun in that?” Finley argues. “We should play a game.”

My mouth bunches on one side as I shake my head. “Seriously, I’m exhausted, and my head is killing me. Why don’t you guys play without me or something?”

“I’m game,” Griffin offers.

“Me, too,” Everett adds.

They both turn to Reeves, waiting for his two cents. But Reeves? He simply stares at me. “I think I’m gonna call it a night, too. Come on, Dylan. I’ll get you situated.”

“I think I can handle it,” Everett mutters.

“I thought you were gonna play a game?” Reeves counters.

“Yeah, come on, Ev,” Finley pleads. “I’m pretty sure Reeves can take care of my good friend here, right, Reeves?”

The bastard doesn’t even bother hiding his smirk as he nods and rubs at the corner of his mouth, looking sexier than sin. Satisfied, Finley gives me a grin, slipping her arm through her brother’s. “I think the board games in my room are still safe. Let’s go pick one. Griffin, you, too. Chop-chop!”

With his hands tucked in his pockets, Griffin turns to Reeves. “You good showing her where the spare sheets are and shit?”

“I think I can handle it,” Reeves replies, mimicking Everett from moments ago.

Griff hesitates, and I swear there’s a weird, manly undercurrent passing between them. Finally, my brother gives Reeves a single nod, then heads back to my side of the duplex. It’s weird. From the outside, you’d never know the kitchen was burned to a crisp.

Finley glances over her shoulder at me and Reeves. “Goodnight, you two. Sleep tight.”And you’re welcome, she mouths, tacking on a wink as she guides Everett into the house.

Reeves’ chuckle is low as he watches them disappear. “That girl is something else.”

“You have no idea,” I mutter. Then, it hits me…it’s only me and Reeves now.

Holy shit, it’s just me andReeves.

A guy I most definitely shouldn’t be crushing on.

My head hurts too much for this.

As if reading my thoughts, he gives me a boyish smile. “Looks like it’s just you and me now.”

I gulp. “Yup.”

With a wave of his hand, he motions toward the front of his house. “Ladies first.”

DYLAN

Nerves buzzing, I walk up the steps and push open the front door to the guys’ side of the duplex. It’s dark, and I pause at the threshold, unsure what to do. Heat skates across my shoulder as Reeves reaches around me and flicks on the light.

“Home sweet home. But you already knew that.” I can hear the smile in his voice, but I don’t bother looking at him to confirm it as he adds, “Do you know whose room is whose?”

“I did until Jax graduated, and everyone switched rooms,” I admit. “Griff is on the top floor, right?”

“Yeah. Follow me.” He closes the front door with a quiet click, then heads up the stairs. They creak softly under our weight as I follow him, feeling like it’s the first time I’ve ever taken this path, even though it couldn't be further from the truth. Once we reach the second floor, he taps his knuckles against one of the closed doors as we walk past it. “This one’s mine. And this one”—he pauses at the last door on the right—“is now yours.”

Cool. We’re neighbors. Well, more so than before. It’s totally normal, right? Being neighbors with a guy you should have nothing to do with?

Cool. Cool. Cool.

With a twist of his wrist, Reeves pushes the door open. He doesn’t have a chance to step back when I jump the gun and start to walk inside, belatedly realizing there’s only so much room in a doorway, and we’ve now used all the space. And I meanallthe space.
