Page 23 of Hook

"Hello, Hook needs help. Can you help him?" I rush out, and it's only then that I notice how shaky my voice is.

"Who the hell is this, and how did you get into his office?" the man growls.

"I don't have time for all that. They're going to kill him! Please!" I beg the man, hoping that he figures out I'm not joking and that this is serious.

"What the fuck?" the man curses before he slams the phone down. The sudden silence, followed by the dial tone, causes my hands to shake. Do I call back? Did I do enough?

I see a light start to flash in the office; it's bright red, but there's no sound accompanying it. Did I set off some sort of alarm? I can hear my heart thundering in my ears as I take in huge lungfuls of air. Turning back to the window, I see the three men have closed in on Hook, and he's somehow managed to grab hold of a large chain. It looks like it's used for his tow jobs. It's a deadly weapon, but even I know it's no match against a bullet.

The smiles on their faces have all gone and I watch in horror as the man in the middle raises his gun and points it at Hook. I can't stand back and watch this. I rush to the door ready to throw myself into the line of fire.

My fingers shake as I reach out for the door knob. Before I can twist it, bright lights flood the tow yard, and I watch as four other men come out. All of them are armed and walking toward the confrontation.

I don't think I've ever felt joy like this. Each of the men, minus one, has a vest on like Hook wears. These are friends. The men here to get me start to back up, and I watch with intense glee as their faces begin to fall and their eyes dart from side to side.

Hook joins up with the rest of the men who just walked out, and now they're the ones closing in on the men in front of them. One of Lance's men, the one who looks the most freaked out by the entire altercation, lifts his weapon. I scream in shock as a shot rings out.

The situation goes from tense to atomic in a matter of seconds before both groups converge on each other. Hook swings his chain, catching the first of Lance's men across the face. Even from where I'm sitting in the office, I can see the blood splatter out of his mouth.

Hook doesn't let up, though; he jumps on the man and proceeds to beat on him with his fists. It's like watching a wild animal. My thighs clench hard as I watch the scene unfolding right here in front of me.

Why the hell is this turning me on? I never thought I was someone who would get off on violence, but something about Hook beating the shit out of this man has me ready to rush over to him and rip his clothes off. It's so primal, animalistic.

The rest of the MC has jumped into action as well, and they are beating on the other men. I don't hear any more gunshots going off, thankfully, but I still don't know if the first shot hit anyone. What if someone was hurt? What if I'm responsible for one of them losing their life? I'm not sure I'll be able to live with that.

In the scuffle, I watch two of the men Lance sent get up and run away. The one Hook has under him is barely moving.

"Stop him!" I say out loud, not sure if anyone out there can hear me. If they don't, Hook will kill that man.

Thankfully, I watch as the rest of the MC members rush over to Hook and grab for him, allowing the last of Lance's men to get away. A wave of relief washes over me as I see him running, or more like limping, out of the tow yard. At least I know he's still alive and Hook won't get into trouble.

Now that I know the danger has passed, I rush out of the office and into the light of the tow yard. All eyes turn in my direction, but no one says anything. I'm sure they are all wondering who the hell I am. So far, the only people that have seen me are the two who were with us at the warehouse.

"You must be the sweet thing that called us," a man speaks up, the same one with the smoker's voice.

"You must be the one who hung up on me," I reply, a bit of snark in my tone.

His eyebrows shoot up, and he chuckles at my attitude. I don't care if he doesn't like me. Right now, I need to check up on Hook. I push through the crowd and get to him. There's blood coming from a wound on his head, and his lip is busted.

"Oh God, you're hurt." I reach up to touch him, but he flinches away before I can, the chain he used as a weapon still draped over his shoulder clinks as he moves.

"I'm fine," he bites out.

Even though I can see he's standing on his own two feet, it hits me just how close this was. They could've shot him. He could be lying here dead right now, all because of me.

"No, I can't do this. I need to go to him," I whisper to myself, but Hook hears me. His eyes harden, and he steps out of the crowd, grabbing my hand and pulling me back into the office.

"What the hell did you just say?" he growls at me, and for the first time since I jumped out of the car when he first towed it here, I'm scared of him. The fight changed him. He's not the calm man I've grown used to. Hook is on edge, a darkness in his eyes that I know I should run away from.

"I said I should go back. I am going to go back. You're not going to get yourself killed for me, Hook." I stand my ground.

"Like hell you are." Hook snarls and grabs my hand again. This time when he pulls me it's not back toward the tow yard but through another door that leads to a work garage of sorts. There's tools and equipment all around. I can't believe I didn't find this before. I don't have time to look around. Hook is on a mission.

"Hook, you can't tell me what I'm going to do. Lance is dangerous. You've already seen he's willing to do whatever to get me. You don't owe me anything. I'm not going to keep risking your life, not for me." I continue but don't try to pull away from him. I'm fine going wherever he's trying to lead me. At least I thought I was until we stop in front of a long table with small hooks screwed into the wall behind it.

"I said you're not going." Hook snaps out again before he pushes me hard against the table and turns me around so I have to face him.

His eyes are crazed. This man is a killer. In all the time I've been around the bad elements of society, there are only a few people I've seen with that look in their eyes: Lance and now Hook.Still, I know I can't back down. If Hook sees even a small bit of hesitation, he'll try to talk me out of this. He'll get me to stay here and take on my fight as his own.
